14 months and still not walking :-(

DD will be 14 months old tomorrow and she's still not walking independently :-(. She does great cruising or if she's holding your hand but as soon as you let go she just sits down! I know she just has to gain the confidence and she'll be off, but I'm getting impatient!!

Re: 14 months and still not walking :-(

  • My DD had not taken a single independent step at 14 months. 2 weeks ago she took her first step and as of today she is walking full time. It will happen.

  • DD didn't walk until the day before she turned 15 months. Then she took about a two week break of not really walking, maybe a step or two here or there, then decided to really go for it and started walking more and more each day in the past couple of weeks, until she's finally doing more walking than crawling. Your LO will get there in their own time, just let them lead on this one,

  • oh it will happen, my daughter was not interested in walking at all then all of a sudden off she went. She's been walking for about 3 weeks now! try to enjoy the time you have with her not walking, because once she starts she is gone! :)
  • Our ped said he doesn't worry until LO is 18mo and not walking. Ds walked at 14 1/2 months. Had been cruising and taking 12 steps and suddenly took off!

  • My LO is 15 months now and didn't start walking until 14 months... let me share what helped our lo walk!

This sounds really bad, but it really helped him.  A PT I know suggested it.  Get a long rope (we used a dog leash) hold one end and let LO hold the other while walking.  Keep tension on it and slowly cut some slack.  Practice with her walking this way until she feels more comfortable with you giving her a lot of slack... then she's walking! :)

Maybe it'll work, maybe it won't.  Our lo only did this a few times for 2 days before he gained the confidence he needed to walk.

If it doesn't work, don't worry at all! :) They walk when they are ready. Good luck!

Not walking here either!  And DS is 14.5 months.  Not even walking with hand holding.  He will cruz around furniture etc. and stand up and squat and then stand up again but thats it.  No signs of it.  Kind of annoying because Im 7 months pregnant and he is really heavy to carry at 27lbs!  I need to get him walking before this baby comes! :)  But I know he will do it when he is ready. :)

This!  My son is perfectly capable of walking, but just started taking steps without holding on within the last 2 weeks.  It's more a confidence thing with him.  He's been cruising since 9 months and just now built up enough courage to let go.  He was a late crawler too though so we expected it.

  • My almost 4 year old started walking at 14 months.  My 14 month old started at 10 months.  It'll all be fine.  Your baby will walk at some point!  I promise she won't be going to college as a crawler.  :)
