Wrist pain?

I know carpal tunnel is somewhat common in pregnancy.  Recently my left wrist has been really sore and both hands as well. CT or just swelling?  I'll obvi ask my doc at my appt on Friday, but thought I'd see what other people have experienced and what they've done to treat it (if anything).

Re: Wrist pain?

  • I have CT.  It's fired up again in my right hand.  What you have is completely possible.  May feel numbness, tingling, or just soreness/pain.  Massages are good. I have a wrist brace.  You can get one at CVS or somewhere.

    I jest.

Wrist supports and paraffin baths work wonders.

Huh?  It was actually not incorrect, but I'm done trying to explain it.  And it wasn't long either.  The horse beaters have made it quite long.....

But thanks for the topically relevant answers here :). What does paraffin do?

  • I had to go into an ortho doc. It was something called dequervains tenosynoitis. Yes, I butchered that. Its like carpal tunnel, and pregnancy can cause it.

  • I have developed the soreness in my fingers - my doctor said it was carpel tunnel.  She said I could try taking Tylenol, but it didn't help.

What was the treatment?  Is it supposed to go away post-partum?

  • I had CT in one of my wrists with my first, and I worked on a computer a lot. I wore a brace on it at night, since sleeping on it funny can make it worse. It went away once my son was born, and the brace really helped. Target or Walmart carries them for sure.

I developed De Quervain's in my right wrist when I was pregnant with DD, fortunately it has not flared up with his pregnancy. It's wrist pain but on the side of your wrist closest to your thumb.  It was very very painful at times, the only thing that helped was wearing a wrist brace, I slept in mine. Tylenol didn't really do much to help it. Went away a few weeks after DD was born.

  • I have CT from pregnancy.  I started with wrist supports from Target and those did nothing.  Once I went to the medical supply and get wrist braces to wear at night this helped significantly.  It did not solve it, but made a big difference.
  • Paraffin baths are just amazing for any carpel tunnel or arthritis treatment, or just a spa treatment for your hands/feet. The heat from the wax really penetrates the tendons and muscles and feels soooo nice <3

I had CT really bad my first two pregnancies, I bought a basic bath from Walmart for like, 25 bucks and its worth it's weight in gold :)

  • ow wrist pain sucks another pregnancy side effect that doesn't get listed often enough,

If you tap the middle of your inside wrist (right at the base of your palm) with your finger and it sends a tingling/pain sensation into your fingers, you have CT. Like the other ladies mentioned, wearing a wrist brace, especially at night can help!

Nothing.  I guess it's just generic pregnancy discomfort/swelling :). Thanks for the tip!
