LEEP Procedure

I just went and had my colposcopy today and my dr. said that things looked worse than she had originally thought and said that I will probably have to have a LEEP procedure.  Has anyone had this done?

Re: LEEP Procedure

  • I am a lurker on this board but I had it done. I was put under but given a choice of just local. I wanted to be sleeping through it. Recovery wasn't bad, I took 3 days off work including the day of surgery. Some discharge, even some dark scary discharge almost black. Cramping for a few weeks. Not too bad. Good luck!

  • I had it done several years ago. I went home an hour or two after the procedure and didn't have any pain or complications afterward. I took off work two days including the day of the procedure.

  • I had this done in March and honestly, I thought the colpo was worse than the LEEP! It's a bigger deal of course but pain wise its not as bad. I had my mom go with me (DH was working) and I cried because I had it made out to be the worst thing ever but the worst part for me was the loud machine, and the fact that I'm terrified of needles but in 100% honesty, I didn't know he had gave me the shot until I felt my heart start racing! I had my grandma stay and help out for 24 hours after the procedure but I'm sure I would've been fine on my own. The worst was not being able to lift for a few days, hard to do with 2 kids.... back to the procedure, I honestly did not feel a THING! Don't get worked up over it. I did and wish I wouldn't have. I was completely terrified and there was absolutely no reason for it. Good luck!

  • Yes, I had a LEEP done in early 2007. I opted for the local anesthesia so I wasn't put to sleep. I didn't feel anything b/c it numbed me pretty well. I had cramping and bleeding afterwards but I don't remember for how long. Overall it wasn't a bad experience.

  • Thanks ladies! The colposcopy was terrible, anything else will hopefully be easy.
