Goodbye Hair (mine, not little guy's)

I know it is perfectly normal for our hair to shed a lot after giving birth, but WHOA. The past few days I get tons of hair in my hand every time I shower, brush my hair, or even run my hand through my hair. My little guy also often has my hair in his little grabby hands. I am definitely noticing that my pony tail is skinnier than it used to be. I am feeling very stressed/moody lately, so maybe my hormones are doing something crazy right now.

Does anyone know when this massive hair loss stops?

  • I don't know. But I hope soon!!! I don't have much more to lose!

  • Me too! I feel like mine is falling out by the handful and LO always has it all over him, too!

i just saw a segment about this on the show 'The Doctors' (horrible daytime television options) and the Dr. mentioned it may last up to 5 months. Ughhhhh

  • I had this happen to me at the beginning of my pregnancy instead of after it was over, but I think it took a couple months. I'm hoping it doesn't happen when I stop breast feeding or anything. I was vacuuming my bathroom floor every day! It was so gross and my hair is above my shoulders so its not even long!

  • I wish some of mine would fall out. Mine is sooo thick and its so hot here. :) I haven't noticed any diff. I have cont to take my vitamins. I have noticed my nails are breaking. :( I get gel manicures to help with breakage, but uggg. I loved my preg nails!! So long, strong, and pretty!
  • Mine has been falling out but I think it's at the same rate it was before I was pregnant. The texture of my hair on the other hand has changed SO much. My hair is so dry and coarse now. I need a good cut but it has been hard to get to the salon lately.

This is totally me too. I used to have a decent pony tail and now it's down to a tiny pony tail. DD always has hair in her hands too. My hair is everywhere and falls so much so that I told my husband I may need a wig for my brother's wedding in September as I am not sure I'll have any hair left on my head.

  • Yep. Mine started with DS1 when he was about 4 months old. It was still falling out when I got pregnant when he was 8 and a half months old.

It started a few weeks ago this time and is still going strong. I have really long hair so it sucks, I feel like hair is everywhere and on everything. It's worse than having a shedding dog!

  • It's starting for me too. I was expecting it because the same thing happened when DD was about 3 months old. Even more hair loss than was normal Prepregnancy. I've been warning DH for a couple of weeks that the Hair Monster will be back in the shower drain and not to freak out!

Next milestone is the shorties that stick out around my ears when all that hair starts to grow back in!

  • You can get Nioxin shampoo and conditioner at Great Clips. My MIL used it years ago when her hair thinned out during her chemo and said it really helped thicken up her hair and lessen the amount lost. I've been using it for about two weeks now and I'd say my hair loss is about half of what it was.

  • I am in the same place!!  It's been going on for almost a week now. I had pretty thick hair before pregnancy so I'm waiting to see how much I lose. It's so hard to comb my hair after washing it now, so much comes out.
  • With my first pregnancy my hair started falling out right after birth... This time it started about 12 Weeks PP!

  • I could've written this myself, in fact, I've been meaning to but have been working a ton! Mine started when DS was 11/12 weeks old. My stylist said it usually lasts between 3-6 months before it comes back. I have some pretty sweet bald patches at my temples... I don't miss being pregnant, but I sure miss how gorgeous pregnancy made me!
  • If it makes you feel better, you're not going bald, just losing the hairs your pregnant head held onto!

Also, I know it might be different for everyone but this is my 3rd baby, and both times before I noticed that once my hair started coming out the baby weight started coming off too! My hair is just starting to fall out, and I am pretty happy about it - I am so ready to lose the last 18 lbs! :)
