Next bed....

We are TTC #2 officially this cycle and have got to thinking a lot about the bed situation.

If we conceive this month baby will be due late april (i have 45-50 day cycles) and DD will be 30 months! WOW!!! We do not plan on moving her to a toddler bed until she tells us shes ready, meaning climbing out, and the baby will sleep with us until 3 months or so.

So here is my questions: Since her crib turns into a toddler bed would you still put LO in that even though you will need it for the new baby or just buy a full bed that they will use for a much longer time?

Both of our parents said they would help out with all the new stuff we will need since we have most of our baby stuff already so just trying to get an idea!

TIA

I've been thinking about that lately too. While we bought LO's crib because it was a convertible, I think we will most liekley just buy a new bed and use the crib for the next one.

  • I'm not sure what we will do. We don't plan on moving DS into a toddler bed until he climbs out of or fights going into his crib. He shows no signs of breaking out any time soon. I'm not sure if we will convert it into the toddler bed or just put a mattress on the floor.

Depending on how well of a sleeper #2 is; I think we will try to have #2 sleep in his/her room from the beginning. DS slept in our room for 9 weeks or so, but we all slept better when he moved across the hall.

That said, we'll probably just end up buying a second crib.

Have fun TTC#2...hopefully the bed thing will be a 'problem' for both of us in the near future! Wink

  • My kids are far enough apart that DD got to use the toddler part of her crib before she decided when she was ready to be transitioned to the "big" bed.

But if this had been our situation, I would have preferred to use the crib as such, and move DD into a big bed early. There are plenty of bed rails out there that you can use to keep #1 from falling out. As well as to make it inconvenient to get out of bed often. GL TTC #2!

  • We got DD1 a toddler bed (which she hasn't used in months, she prefers to sleep on the floor!).  Our girls share a small bedroom and the crib and a twin will not fit.  We opted for a toddler bed until we no longer need the crib and then we'll get bunkbeds or some other configuration of twin beds that fit the room.

  • We ended up buying a second crib because DS was in no way ready for a toddler bed (he turns three tomorrow and is still happily in his crib) when DD was ready to move out of the cosleeper.  We will not be buying a 3rd crib when the newest baby makes his/her appearance though.

  • I think our plan is to move our first daughter into her "Big Girl Bed" for her 2nd birthday.  Her little sister is due two months later, so we're hoping (probably in vain) that this is enough time to both train her to stay in her new bed and have her not feel like her little sister is stealing her thunder.  I am terrified that she won't stay in her bed though.  She only tried to climb out once, and fell.  Luckily, Daddy was right there to catch her.  That deterred her from trying again, but there's nothing to stop her getting out of her toddler bed.  It's not like she'd "fall" very far, if at all.  Clearly, we can't make up our minds...  If we do end up buying a second crib, it won't be a convertible.

  • DS1 was in no way ready to go into a toddler bed, and is still not ready.  Thankfully, my mom bought a nice used crib from a friend of hers, so that way we have 2 cribs for the boys.  If we can ever get DS2 to sleep through the night, the boys will share a room.
