Toddlers: 24 Months+

Toddler bed

So for 2 or so months now my 22 month old has been whining and fussing to go to bed in her crib. She is sleep trained since 10 months old and was a great sleeper. She even wakes during the night and does it. I have tried many things and nothing seems to fix it. She does not do this for her naps.

This may seem like a crazy question, but do you think switching to a toddler bed would help or would this just cause more problems??

Re: Toddler bed

  • I don't understand what's happening. She's whining that she doesn't want to be in her crib? She's sleeping elsewhere but wants to be in her crib? Forgive me, I'm probably overtired.

  • I'm tired too so I probably didn't explain myself well.
She is completely fine when I put her in her crib. She lays down, I cover her up and walk out. About 2 min later she is up giggling, talking, etc. she does this for about 15 min. Then starts fussing and whining for about 30 min. Sometimes an hour Until she falls asleep. It has only gotten to crying a few times.

  • I can't remember when it started, but my DS (34 months) is like this.  It doesn't  bother me since he's not tired in the morning or anything.  I let him choose some of his trains to take to bed.  Sometimes he plays with them for awhile before he goes to sleep, sometimes he goes straight to sleep.  He also does this for his nap, although there are times he plays for the whole nap and never sleeps.  Bonus for me is that he never fights going to bed.

DD lays in bed and chats for a long time. Last night it took nearly 2 hours for her to settle down but she never cried aside from the initial few minutes after I put her down and walk out of her room. As long as she isn't crying hysterically, we let her do her thing. We sit downstairs and listen as she rattles off the most random things.

  • Two things I thought of:

    1) make sure she has some "quiet time" to calm down before bedtime. I'm bad about winding down myself, so some nights I lay there for 30+ minutes trying to chill out.

    2) Maybe she's going to bed too early or too close to the end of her last nap? Try pushing bedtime back 30 minutes?

Or, just let her talk and fuss.
