Trying to decide if I want to spend the hundred dollars and get our twins tested. If you had to take a guess...what would you say. Identical or fraternal?
I would say they look identical, but, mine are identical and I think they look totally different! My girls were di/di and I was told fraternal by all the doctors. It took me a year to get them tested because fraternal had been drilled in my head! I wish I had done it sooner since I know now they are identical! Totally worth the $100!

If you really want to know, I'd go ahead and get the test- they do look VERY similar. I'm in a completely different camp with two boys that don't look a thing alike. It still shocks me when strangers say they see a resemblance because I sure don't!
Even though it was nearly impossible that mine were ID, I was pleased to get their blood types in the hospital (my hospital only tests babies with a RH- mother). Everyone in the nursery was shocked to see their different blood types and we knew for sure.

TTC in 2009, Dx: Unexplained IF
Three TI cycles (BFP...miscarriage), five IUI attempts and 2.5 IVF cycles later...BFP!!
12dp5dt: 765; 15dp5dt: 1979; 17dp5dt: 3379...TWINS!!!!!
Our perfect baby boys were born at 36w1d!!
Question though, and I hope I dont sound stupid.. is there a benefit to knowing other than peace of mind?
Another dumb question.. even if you have fraternal.. that came from 2 embryos.. can they look ID or really close to it? I'd imagine they would look similar as siblings but has anyone had a fraternal set that caught non close families and friends by surprise by close looks?
I say they are darling no matter what!nbsp;Question though, and I hope I dont sound stupid.. is there a benefit to knowing other than peace of mind? To answer question nmero uno: just peace of mind
And the second one, I don't know. But I have a feeling the test is going to come back fraternal and the whole family is going to be in complete and utter shock!
Totally ID! If I were you though I probably would go ahead and do the test just to know for sure. It would bug me not to know. (My boys were also di/di but look very different so we never had to test.)

To answer your second questions yes. I have distant triplet cousins. Everyone assumed they were ID triplets since all three looked the same- even now as young adults- however when they were tested a few years ago- it was a stunner. They are a ID set of twins with a fraternal triplet.
I would test to be sure. I have ID girls and we tested a few months ago. Some family members thought we were crazy for thinking there was even a possibility that they were fraternal, but it is nice to know for sure!
I response to one of the questions above, yes fraternals can look very similar. I read a book, the name escapes me at the moment, but there was a picture of fraternals that looked very, very much alike. The researcher actually had them tested twice because she couldn't believe they weren't identical.
That first picture on the top looks photoshopped. I was scrolling down and I thought I'd see two babies with different expressions or something - I totally thought they were the same baby, and I spend all day with ID twins!
My pedi said that there's really no benefit to knowing for sure because if by some chance we'd need to know for medical reasons, they have the results within hours when it was needed. We're still waiting to see if the boys' eye color changes. If they turn brown, we'll test. If they stay bright blue, we know without a doubt that they're ID, because the genetic chances of us having even one baby with blue eyes is SO slim.
Peace of mind, but also for medical reasons. I have ID twin uncles, and one saved the other's life by being a perfect bone marrow transplant match while the other was fighting cancer. You can get the results done on the spot, which is what they did because my grandmother never had them tested, but if it were me, I'd love to know in advance

This is my exact same story...was told frat and also waited a year before testing for the same reason. I think your girls are ID, and that's what everyone told me too, but it's nice to have confirmation. Worth the money!
As far as someone else saying it must be nice not to get the "Are they twins" question, because they are ID...not so much. I still get that question, followed up with "Wow, they look exactly alike." Or "how do you tell them apart?" Go figure.

Mine are identical and I get the are they twins question all the time. I figure it's a conversation starter.
Anyway, they look identical to me, but who knows?
TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!
Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!
They look ID, I might spend the money to get them tested
And to think, one doctor I saw said absolutely no ID babies were di/di, I giggled
They look ID to me!
