Baby Names

Anastasia

I love the name Anna, but we can't use just Anna so DH nixed it a while ago. My mom and niece suggested Anastasia today and DH actually likes it! I'm NOT worried about a fifty shades connotation. It's a crappy book and no reason to eliminate a beautiful name.

Thoughts?

NMS, but not a bad name. I loved it as a kid because of The Babysitters Club books. It was Stacey's full name :)

I haven't read the 50 Shades books - I love the genre, but heard horrible things about the writing quality, so my mind didn't automatically make that connection.

  • I read Shades and that wasn't my first connotation at all. I actually didn't even think of it.

This. I've read 50 shades and I'm not reminded of the book. I remember it more from Cinderella and the babysitters club books.

    Love the name.

  • I love it. You definitely don't have to worry about Fifty Shades. Everyone's already forgotten about that.

  • I love Anastacia! It's such a beautiful name. I probably would've used it but I know her nickname would be Anna and that's MIL's name, and I just can't have her thinking that baby is named after her

I didn't read Shades, but I know the characters and would not have thought of that. I actually was thinking some kind of princess instead! Not a bad name at all and kind of unique IMO.

  • DH likes it but thinks its a big name. We had a great aunt Stasia and my dad adored her. Perhaps I can seal the deal by telling him its a family name!
  • I love the name and think it makes a nice sib-set.

  • I really like Anastasia. It's on my long list of girl names. If you like Anna but can't use it as a stand alone name, you could also use Annabelle.

In a couple years maybe I will get over it, but 50 Shades definitely ruined it for me. Same with Christian. Which is unfortunate because I considered them both okay names before.

That said, I don't think those books will be relevant forever (god help us all if they are) so if you like the name, use it.

  • Thanks Ladies! We are down to three if LO2 is a girl (we find out in four weeks). Our boy name is chosen (Isaac Frank) to honor his grandfathers and our last 3 girl names are Anastasia, Matilda, and Delilah. DD is Caroline and I think any of our choices would go well with her name.
