2 1/2 year old stopped talking

I have a 2 1/2 year old son and I know he can talk when he wants to but recently he has stopped using his words and just whines and cries all the time I ask him what he wants and sometimes he will tell me other wise I'm left to guess what he wants it's very frustrating I am 37 weeks pregnant and the more pregnant I get the more whiny crying fits he seems to have

My guess would be that he is acting out about the soond to be new baby. There has probably been a lot of baby talk and he is probably experiencing other changes in the house nursery prepped, you are probably more tired, etc. I would try and have a special day with DS and see if he pops out of it. Try to discuss how you will need his help since he will be a big brother and let him help out with the baby when the new LO gets here get diapers for you, etc.

Agree with PP but don't only focus on how much help you'll need all the time. Also focus on how special he is and how much you love him and how he'll always be your baby.

Also, I wouldn't give him what he wants until he speaks, if you know he can. "Oh, you want that cup. Can you ask for it? I'll give it to you as soon as you ask for it" and then seriously don't hand it over.

I would have the dr check him out just in case because it could be aspergers. My daughter lost her speech when I was pregnant with her brother and lost it for over 1 yr even with birth to three working with her. Finally she got it back and is being evaluated for aspergers.

Talk to your pediatrician. There is a lot going on right now, so before you listen to someone telling you that something could be more serious with your child, just check with the pediatrician. Good luck!

This is what I do. When I was hugely pregnant and baby stuff started piling up in the house, DS acted out a little bit, and he did the whiny/crying thing without using his words. We did exactly the aforementioned thing, and we still continue it when he whines.

And call your pedi too. It can't hurt to have it checked. 

[unless he is legit sick. If he is, whining is not "okay", but it's more tolerated.]

Have you had his ears and throat checked? One of my first thoughts would be an ear infection, sore throat, something along those lines. How long has he not been using his words?
