Need Help Packing for the Beach

Hot dog, we're going on vacation! DS just turned one. What are some things you have found that help make beach/pool time more fun? And how did you haul everything around?

Re: Need Help Packing for the Beach

  • We live 5 minutes from the beach so here's a list of stuff we bring with us:

Sun hat, swim shirt, swim suit, water shoes, sunscreen, swim diapers, regular diapers, a change of clothes, two towels for baby, beach toys, snacks, water, and a  float with a sun canopy.  Some people bring beach umbrellas or beach chairs but we just sit in the shade when we go. Our stroller fits everything in it so we just wheel it on the sand. Hope that helps!  Have fun!

  • those food pouches are great as snacks... no mess. I would recommend to bring something that makes shade. It gets hot out there and quick. we went about a week ago and he did great just sitting in the shade and playing with his sand shifters.

and another option to carry so much stuff would be a backpack so you still have your hands free to carry the chairs, cooler, and baby.

    Have fun

  • We usually bring a sun hat, sunscreen, a towel, an umbrella and chairs for DH and I although we don't really sit in them that much, sand toys for DD, a change of clothes for DD, 2 swim diapers and 2 regular diapers, wipes, a sippy cup of water.  I carry DD in the Ergo and we stuff everything else into 2 beach bags.  DH carries one bag, his chair and the umbrella, I carry the other bag.

Our beach house is 2 houses down from the beach so it's a super short walk.  We leave everything else at the house and if we need something we go back to the house.  Also, we don't really like to sit out on the beach the entire day so we'll go for a couple of hours in the morning, head back to the house for lunch, and then go back to the beach after the middle of the day hot sun has passed.  And it's really nice where we go because we just leave our chairs and umbrella and everything at the beach while we're at the house eating lunch and napping.

  • I'm going to make a list. These are all great suggestions! Any ideas on how a wagon would do on the sand?

  • I definitely want one of those carts with big wheels for the beach- cause I just met my friends at the beach w their kids and I had a cooler, bag, toys, umbrella and towel that I had to all carry along w baby!!! I don't know how I did it, but I was superwoman- a cart would have made life way easier!!!
  • we just got back from the beach and the BEST item we brought with us was a 40 inch blow up pool that cost us about 8 bucks... DH blew it up on the beach (took about five minutes) and filled the pool with buckets of ocean water and DS played in there forever! it was nice for us to sit back and relax while he entertained himself playing in the pool.

everyone else has great suggestions too and i wish i posted this question before we went!! :)

  • i bring an SPF 50 umbrella, the sand can be really hot. I load everything up in the stroller and push LO right down to the water in it. In addition to what other's have said LO has a spf50 sun hat and a rash guard in addition to bathing suits. I bring milk in a camping thermos and it stays ice cold all day. I pre-freeze things like food pouches etc to help stay cold for an all day outing. Or you can freeze milk in leftover pumping bags and it will be easy to pour and stay cold in a cooler. I bring lotion and spray sunblock. it is easy to reapply with the spray after toweling drying when their skin is still somewhat wet.  Other than that i bring whatever i usually bring for myself.  Age depending they might enjoy sand toys.
