Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Poop Frequency

I know there's been discussion before about the frequency of EBF babies' poop, so I just wanted to add our experience.

DS is four and a half months old and since about three months he's been pooping about every 5 or 6 days. He's just gone 12 days without a poop, and everything I had read said that could be normal for an EBF baby, and that it's extremely rare for them to be constipated. I was still a bit worried, so yesterday I called the infant line of our health unit and got the same answer. The nurse said as long as he's eating the same, has lots of wet diapers and soesn't seem to be in any pain there's no reason to worry.

So I figured we just needed to keep waiting, keep doing bicycle legs, exersaucer, etc. like usual. Well he just had a gigantic poop in his exersaucer - it was all the way up his back onto his arms. Completely liquidy.

So apparently even 12 days can be normal, in case there's anyone out there concerned about frequency.

Re: Poop Frequency

  • LOL, exersaucers and bumbo seats always make for messy poops!  My pedi said two weeks can be in the range of normal too

  • LO will be 3 months on Thurs and I actually came on here looking for some poop posts.  Since Saturday he has had an increase in poop.  Today he went 3 times Yesterday 7!  The day before 5!  He's EBF  WTH?  He's also been fussy.  I wonder- teething maybe?  Just something I ate?  A cold coming on?
