Hi all! I don't post much on here, but I lurk a lot. I have recently accepted a part time job that will require me to find someone to take care of my son one day a week. I was wondering how to find AP friendly babysitters. Are there things I should write in the advertisement, or questions I should ask in the interview to gauge how AP they lean? My son is almost 4 months, and I am super nervous to leave him with someone else, so any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Re: How to find a babysitter
I'm a member of a local Facebook group for dayhomes and parents and some of the dayhomes will specifically list ways they are AP/"crunchy" friendly: baby-led weaning, positive discipline, whole/organic food, cloth diapers welcome, etc.
If there are things you're looking for, instead of saying "AP", say that. Say "baby-wearing" or "cloth diapers" or "baby-led schedule". Whatever actual things you'd like to see happen. If you're just looking at one day a week, you will probably be looking at a SAHM that wants to take on another kid for a bit of cash on the side, so just try to find someone that you click with who parents in a similar way to you.

If you go through an agency, you can tell them your parenting preferences and see if they can pair you with someone who is like minded.
I'd ask before you tell the applicant your preferences, so that you get an honest assessment of their knowledge and views. You can also ask questions like:
Are you familiar with feeding babies bottled BM as opposed to formula?
What activities do you think are best for a 4 month old for stimulation and play?
How would you help my baby if he was fussy?
How would you help a baby fall asleep for a nap?
Are you comfortable wearing my baby in a carrier if I show you how, and using the carrier for at least x amount of time per day and on walks instead of a stroller?
I think what is most important is finding someone who respects your parenting preferences and is willing to follow your every instruction, even if it's not how he or she would parent. Good luck!
