Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

sudden night wakings at 1

hey ladies!

So my little guy has been sttn for months, but in the past week he has woken up suddenly 4 or 5 times. The first two times he put himself back to sleep before I even made it to my bedroom door, the next time it took him 15-20 minutes (I left him alone because he was just sort of fussing and whining and never even sat up) to get back to sleep and then last night he was crying harder so I went in and picked him up and rocked him for a few minutes until he pushed off of me to get back in his crib. Each time he proceeded to sleep fine through the rest of the night.

Any ideas? Did anyone have similar issues at around 12-13 months? It's not that big of a deal, but if it continues I'd like to have a plan moving forward. tia.

  • Do you think he's teething? Right after 12 months my DS started to get his upper molars. He had about two weeks of randomly waking up screaming like he was in pain. We would give him some medicine on those nights. Once his molars popped through he was back to sleeping all night. Just a possibility!

Definitely a possibility. We have a policy of minimal interaction at night, so I try not to have to turn on lights and stuff and he seems to be able to go back to sleep easily though, so I haven't resorted to the drugs just yet.

  • Our little guy did the same thing and a week or two after you could see molars trying to break through. You can watch for other signs too. Our LO loses his appetite for anything but cold fruit when he's teething. He also sticks his fingers in his mouth a lot more than normal. Almost like he's discovered he has new teeth.
