Food Allergy

Am I missing something?

DS has been doing really well introducing solids. DH bought him some multi-grain Gerber cereal. I read the ingredients and nothing popped out at me as a dairy ingredient, however DS's eczema flared on his face, he was crying and refusing to eat (and this chunky little guy never misses a meal) so I was just wondering if I'm missing something here. These are the ingredients
Ingredients
WHOLE GRAIN WHEAT FLOUR, WHOLE GRAIN OAT FLOUR, OAT FLOUR, RICE FLOUR, WHOLE GRAIN RYE FLOUR, PEARLED BARLEY FLOUR, CALCIUM CARBONATE, AND LESS THAN 2% OF: POTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, ASCORBIC ACID (VITAMIN C), ELECTROLYTIC IRON, ZINC SULFATE, ALPHA TOCOPHERYL ACETATE (VITAMIN E), NIACINAMIDE (A B VITAMIN), RIBOFLAVIN (VITAMIN B2), THIAMIN MONONITRATE (VITAMIN B1), PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE (VITAMIN B6), VITAMIN B12, FOLIC ACID (A B VITAMIN).

Nutrition Facts

Are one of these a dairy form I'm missing, or do you think he is reacting to another ingredient? SInce I've stopped giving him the cereal his face is completely cleared up and he's back to eating like his normal happy self.

Hmmm good to know. Guess I will be calling Gerber on Monday. You would think if you were making food for babies you would be extra careful in labeling things correctly. Sad

  • There's nothing in the ingredients, but there could be some cross contamination.

  • That's so funny. A few months back, I fed DS some Gerber Barley cereal. Nothing on the packaging would have indicated dairy. DS has a severe allergy. That night he had green, mucousy poop that we had eliminated and he was not happy at all. I threw it away and it hasn't happened again.
