Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Almost 11 months and still on purees

Anyone else have a child who will 'choke' up solids? We thought we were doing great with watermelon one day, then he coughed, and brought up all the pieces, plus his bottle :(

He has egg, milk, soy, wheat and peanut allergies, so we are kind of limited on all those fun puffs, yogurt melts, etc to help with the process like we did for DD.

We make all his food, peas, sweet potatoes, and pears are his staples.

He also only has one and a half teeth. So I am thinking that may be the issue as well?

Second time around was supposed to be a breeze   Wink

My older son was that way. We just kept offering soft small chunks. Then magically one day around a year he just got it. Then he was offended if you tried to give him purees. Don't worry. He'll get there eventually. Until then just continue to offer formula or BM. If he's still having issues at a year you can always give the "toddler" version of formula or continue to BF.

  • Same here, she gags on anything chunky.. even the tiniest lil pieces in some of the Gerber baby stage 3 jars. I make most of her foods and she loves them really pureed.. O well at least she eats!

  • There are gluten free puffs that come in all sorts of flavors!  I would encourage you to give them a try.  I buy them at Buy Buy Baby though they are also online.  I don't know if BRU sells them.

My DD has all the same allergies and loves these puffs.  Plus, even if it is a puree day I can give her puffs to continue to allow her to self feed...after she has thrown the spoon for the third time and I'm over wiping up the mess.

  • Also, I cut up chickpeas for DD which they can mash with their gums.
  • My son is almost 11 months old and has 2 teeth that are only halfway through. He eats whatever we give him, so I don't think the teeth is where the issue lies here.

My kid isn't a fan of watermelon either. It might just be something he doesn't like or maybe it's too ripe, etc.?

We cut all of DS' food into small pieces.

  • They make rice milk melts. I bought them at Target.
  • Target sells Happy Baby brand allergy friendly puffs and "Little Cremes" made with rice milk. DS has the same allergies and he LOVES his puffs and cremes!
