Toddlers: 24 Months+

Toddler with body odor

Both my toddlers' (18 months and 3 yrs) armpits stink most days.  They play outside twice a day on the playground at daycare.  The temperature here is usually above 90 degrees, so I'm sure they sweat a little which probably causes the odor.  I was just wondering if anyone else has this issue???

  • Interesting. I didn't really think body odor came until puberty? Did you try googling out of curiousity? I would ask the doctor the next you are there.. Of course, you may not have a visit for awhile.

Edit: So, you got me curious, and I googled. This was an interesting article: https://www.livestrong.com/article/131427-what-causes-body-odor-toddlers/

  • Thanks for your response! Yes, I've googled it and found out some info. I plan to ask their doctor but just wanted to know if anyone else had experienced this.  They are really healthy children, normal, and hardly ever sick.  I'm thinking that it may be something hereditary or linked to diet. It's not everyday that we have this issue (and they don't both stink on the same days) so maybe I need to take note on what they've eaten on the days they are not so fresh. Thanks again.

  • Mine plays hard here in the south & we don't have that issue.  I will just say that once on tv I saw this woman who smelled kinda rotten or fishy since she was a kid.  It took her 30 years to finally figure out that she had this condition https://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition/trimethylaminuria  If that is the case, it can be controlled by eliminated certain foods from the diet.  Anyway it's smart that you are looking into it b/c it's not the norm & could indicate something you should be aware of.  Good mom.
