This is our first week of daycare and I'm noticing our DS is the first to be dropped and the last to be picked up. He's there for a total of 10 hours (DH and I have long commutes in opposite directions). He's only 2 months so I know he doesn't care being the last one there but but I'm worried this might be too long and am wondering if we should adjust our schedules. It would only reduce his stay by an hour. Any thoughts would help, thanks!
Re: How many hours is your DC at daycare?
DD is at daycare for about 8 hrs. She is at my work day care and I work 8:30-4:30 pm. So, she is typically dropped up shortly before 8:30 and shortly after 4:30 pm. Most everyone gets there around the same time and picks up at the same time.
My ds currently only goes 12 hrs a week (3 half days) at a different program, but we are switching him next month to my work preschool program, which will be a part-time program at 3 full days (so 24 hrs).
DS is there about 8-8.5 hours. That's pretty typical at our dc, although there's one girl that's there 10 hours every day. We got a note from our provider saying that some of the kids who are there 9-10 hours a day are anxious and tired in the afternoon and asked parents to think of what they could do to help.
I'd just keep an eye on your kiddo and make sure he's doing okay. Personally, I think 10 hours is a long time, but it depends on how easy it would be for you to switch things around and how your DC reacts to being there that long.
too long!
DS is also one of the first ones to be dropped off at 6:30 and he gets picked between 4:30 and 5.

I think daycare is great for DS...would i like to hang out with him all the time...of course, but we make the evenings and weekends as special as we can.
I used to commute even further, and DS was at daycare from 7-5:30 M-F. I switched jobs to be closer to home since I'm the one that has the more consistant work schedule compared to my DH.
I look around and wonder what kind of jobs other parents have when they drop off and pick up within 7 hours or whatever. But this works for my family and I don't feel bad about it because we're all happy.
Mommy to DD1 (June 2007), DS (January 2010), DD2 (July 2012), and The Next One (EDD 3/31/2015)
she gets dropped off about 7 30 ish and picked up at about 5 30 ish...
so that is about 10 hours, sometimes more sometimes less... Dh drops her off in the morning, I go into work early so I can leave early. We both have hour long commutes so I leave work at 4, run to train catch 4 13 train which gets in at 5 15, then drive to pick dd up...
?some times she's first, sometimes she's last. You do what you have to do.??
