How many hours is your DC at daycare?

This is our first week of daycare and I'm noticing our DS is the first to be dropped and the last to be picked up. He's there for a total of 10 hours (DH and I have long commutes in opposite directions). He's only 2 months so I know he doesn't care being the last one there but but I'm worried this might be too long and am wondering if we should adjust our schedules. It would only reduce his stay by an hour. Any thoughts would help, thanks!

  • Up until our recent move, DS was in daycare from 7:30 - 6:00 M-F.  Now isn't too much better, 8AM to 5:45PM.  Most of the time, he is the last to be picked up and a few times a week he is the first to arrive.

  • My son is at daycare for 9 or 10 hours depending on the day.  I feel bad he typically one of the last (or the last) to get picked up but he does get a lot of personal attention after the other kids leave.  I try to get there early if I can but it  doesn't happen often.
  • 7:30 - 3. DD is the first one dropped of in the morning and loves all the personal attention that she gets from the teachers.  When she gets picked up, sometimes she cried because she doesn't want to leave all her friends.
  • DS is in daycare from 8:30 to 5:30 M through F. He is usually one of the last to be picked up.  It used to bother me that he was the only baby left, but he gets one-on-one time with the teacher and they are usually doing a fun activity when we arrive for pick up, so it doesn't bother me so much anymore.
  • Avg about 8 hrs a day.
  • DD is at daycare for about 8 hrs. She is at my work day care and I work 8:30-4:30 pm. So, she is typically dropped up shortly before 8:30 and shortly after 4:30 pm. Most everyone gets there around the same time and picks up at the same time.

My ds currently only goes 12 hrs a week (3 half days) at a different program, but we are switching him next month to my work preschool program, which will be a part-time program at 3 full days (so 24 hrs).

  • DS is there about 8-8.5 hours.  That's pretty typical at our dc, although there's one girl that's there 10 hours every day.  We got a note from our provider saying that some of the kids who are there 9-10 hours a day are anxious and tired in the afternoon and asked parents to think of what they could do to help.

I'd just keep an eye on your kiddo and make sure he's doing okay.  Personally, I think 10 hours is a long time, but it depends on how easy it would be for you to switch things around and how your DC reacts to being there that long.

  • usually 9 hours a day.  almost all the other kids are there at least 10 hours
  • M-F from 7:30 until 5:30.
  • About 10 hours and she is always the last to be picked up but she's not the first there.  A couple of days it has been almost 11 hours!  :(  yuck

DS is also one of the first ones to be dropped off at 6:30 and he gets picked between 4:30 and 5.

  • My DS is in childcare about 3 hours 4 days a week. Some weeks I work during the day so he is there longer. He has been there almost 10 hours on the days I work during the day. I do not like to do it but I know it has to be done. He does fine at the sitters and loves to go.

  • 7:30am - 4:45pm 4 days per week.
  • 9 1/2 hours from 8-5:30.  Seems to be about the average on here so I wouldn't worry.

  • 8 hours a day. I feel bad about it now that he is older. It wouldn't have bothered me with a tiny baby but now he's talking all the time he can tell you he misses you and that hurts!

I think daycare is great for DS...would i like to hang out with him all the time...of course, but we make the evenings and weekends as special as we can.

I used to commute even further, and DS was at daycare from 7-5:30 M-F.  I switched jobs to be closer to home since I'm the one that has the more consistant work schedule compared to my DH.

I look around and wonder what kind of jobs other parents have when they drop off and pick up within 7 hours or whatever.  But this works for my family and I don't feel bad about it because we're all happy.

  • About 8 to 9 hours a day.  Mine are one of the last ones to be dropped off b/c daycare is 10 mins from DH's work.  So, they get dropped off about 8:30-9 am.  I pick them up about 5:15-5:30 pm.  I'd love it if I could get them earlier.
  • About 8 hours average. I WAH, so I wait for her to wake up and then get her ready. That puts me dropping her off somewhere between 9-10 AM. I pick up between 5:15-5:45.

  • Dd is usually there about 11 hours a day - from 6:30/6:45 until 5:30-6.  our daycare is open until 6:30 and there have only been a couple of times she has been the first one dropped off or last one picked up.  I felt bad when it happened, but you have to do what you have to do, and everyone there is so good to her.
  • she gets dropped off about 7 30 ish and picked up at about 5 30 ish...

so that is about 10 hours, sometimes more sometimes less... Dh drops her off in the morning, I go into work early so I can leave early. We both have hour long commutes so I leave work at 4, run to train catch 4 13 train which gets in at 5 15, then drive to pick dd up...

?some times she's first, sometimes she's last. You do what you have to do.??

  • DD averages 8.5 hours a day.  I work 8-4:30.  She gets dropped off shortly before and after my work hours, as she attends the center at my place of employment.
  • DD is usually there for 9-10 hours.  At her first daycare I'd drop her off at 8:30am, spend my lunch hour there, and pick her up at 5:45pm.  I worked 5 minutes away from the daycare.  At her new daycare it depends on our schedules.  If DH is the one dropping off and picking up, she's there from 7:45am to 5:15pm.  If I drop off, it's usually about 9:00am to 4:00pm, depending on my schedule for the day.

  • When I had my old job DS would be at DC from 6:15-4:30 M-TH and 6:15-12:30 F but DH has a wacky schedule so that wasn't everyday.  Now I drop DS off at 8:30 and get him by 4:15 M-Th and 8:30-12:15 F.  But he averages 20-25 hours a week because of DH being off durring the week.
  • We usually drop our daughter off at about 7 and pick her up between 3 and 4. So, that's 8 - 9 hours. Most weeks, she's only there 3 days a week, though, which makes me feel better about it.
