For almost a year now, we've washed DD's diapers every other evening. That way, they could dry overnight and we'd stuff in the morning. However, I've been trying to free up evenings for more family time.
This week I started washing in the morning. I like the routine, but it means I have two drying racks set up in my office/sewing room all day. I don't end up stuffing until the next morning because microfiber inserts can take forever to dry.
I'm still not decided on which system I prefer. When do you wash diapers? What made you decide on that time of day?
Re: When do you wash?
we wash in the mornings before work every other day (99 times out of 100). If it's a sunny day we get them hung outside before I leave, they dry all day, we put together and stuff that night. That works for us. If it's a nasty day outside we are lazy and throw them in the dryer because our house is small and we have four animals running around, lol.
Sometimes the stuffing doesn't happen until immediately before using the diaper...sometimes they just sit in the basket for a day before they get stuffed
I wash at night (and sometimes I'm doing rinse cycles and the dryer during overnight feedings). I work outside the home full time - I throw 2 days of diapers in the wash when I get home in the evenings. Shells dry on a drying rack in the livingroom and inserts, wetbags and wipes go in the dryer. I stuff in the morning before leaving for work. I don't get up early enough to do a pre-rinse, wash and rinse before leaving for work, plus I'd need an extra day's worth of daycare diapers that way.
I do have a few dipes I want to sun - that has to be done on the weekend.
I usually throw them in the wash at night after my kids go to bed. Before I go to bed I throw the inserts and prefolds in the dryer and hang the covers. The next night after the kids are in bed I stuff and put away. So my routine usually goes into the next day. That works for me so I am not up later than I want doing the diaper laundry.
Edited for spelling.
This exactly. In a pinch sometimes I will have DH (SAHD) do it in the morning. But I am a crazy person and I worry that he won't do it right so I do it myself.
I dry my microfiber inserts in the dryer. For the covers, I dry 3-4 on a clothes hanger, just folded over the middle part...saves space.
I wash every other day for the most part but don't have a time of day I dry. Even if you wanted to dry other things out of the dryer, the clothes hangers really take up a lot less space. You could hang them over a shower rod or even in a closet. I have a wire shelf over my machines and just hang them from there.
We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013. We love her to pieces.
We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011. She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.
