Stroller advice

Can anyone tell me about how they chose a stroller? I don't know if I should buy a frame that the car seat attaches to seems to be less expensiveor a convertible stroller with removable bassinet that will last longer but is much more costly. Uppa Baby Versa is one I've seen a lot. I live in a city and spend as much time walking as driving places errands, appointments, etc.. Does anyone have advice/suggestions/experiences? I don't know why but strollers seem to be the most difficult thing for me to choose! Thanks!!

Re: Stroller advice

  • I totally understand, I spent lots of time researching strollers when I was pregnant. I ended up getting a snap n go so I could figure out what I wanted in a stroller when I actually had a baby.

Though I would look at britax b agile and b safe, they are a great travel system combo.

  • It's really a combination of factors like what kind of terrain will you encounter, how big is your trunk space, do you have stairs to deal with, will you be using public transport, how much weight and bulk you are willing to deal with on a regular basis, your budget, if you want something that grows with your child or children.  There is no one perfect stroller, so it's not unusual for people to have multiple strollers for different needs (we just got our 4th, a tandem with #2 on the way)

It's hard to go wrong with an inexpensive frame stroller to hold the carseat until until you figure out your needs a little better.  Another good option is to find a good umbrella stroller that will hold an infant carseat such as the Chicco Liteway Plus, the bumbleride flyer and a few other options.  A nice umbrella stroller is great for everyday use and travel and doesn't take up the whole trunk like some travel systems or bulkier strollers can.

  • I had the Britax b-agile and LOVED it!  It is light weight, very easy to maneuver, and compact.  We even took it with us to German and it was great getting on and off the plane and the trains!

My advice is to try different strollers out.  Think about getting it in and out of the car and house.

  • We just tried a bunch out and based on weight, capability and functionality we are going with the Britax B-Agile travel system. It is light, folds easy, the car seat clips into place, and maneuvers easily. I love everything about it.

  • My priorities were a stroller that got good reviews, could be used from birth without a car seat adapter (as we used a convertible car seat right away), wasn't bulky or heavy, was under $300, and folded easily. We bought a 2012 City Mini and I love it.
  • Try to find a store that has a good selection so you can test drive a lot of different models and see them for yourself in person. Stop people in the street and ask them what they like/dislike about their stroller. I found people are often happy to share. I looked on Amazon for reviews and YouTube for videos showing different features.

Thanks for all the input. This really helps make the search a lot easier!
  • If you like the vista, check out the uppababy Cruz. I am getting it. Super lightweight, slimmer width than the vista and stands upright when folded

  • I didn't do enough research when I bought and ended up buying way more than needed. If I were to do it again I would buy the snap n' go because it is so convenient and then when the baby outgrows it go to a good quality umbrella like Maclaren or chicco liteway.  They recline enough for a baby that is out of the infant seat but doesn't have great muscle control yet. Both of these options fold easily and get smaller for getting around a city.

  • The Chicco liteway plus. It starts out as a "fold-n-go" that you can click a baby carseat into so it's a combination of that and a travel system. It goes all the way to 40 or 50 pounds so when baby is older you will also have the light weight umbrella style stroller that's easier to usebut still has a storage net underneath. Also it is fully collapsible so it folds up small enough to travel with. You never know what might come up after baby is born and it is a hassle to have to go back and buy a stroller that's easy to use on an airplane, train, subway, etc. I wish I knew this was an option when I had my first child because because I just recently went on a trip and had to rebuy a stroller that would work for the airplane and traveling.

I agree with this 100% The main thing I would say is you want something that is easy to push with one hand and that is simple to use and not too heavy. As another poster said there are many many factors to consider. I personally think since you are likely going to be using it everyday, you should invest in quality to make your life easier. We have a cameleon but there are many other great quality strollers you can use. We have also gotten tons of use out of our maclleren umbrella stroller and the BOB running stroller. I couldn't live without any of these. Now that we have #2 on the way we are buying double strollers. I personally wish we would've bought the bugaboo donkey stroller to begin with although it wasn't out yet when my son was born. Whatever you do, do not make an impulsive quick decision. I recommend checking out the Baby Gizmo blog. She does tons of great and informative unbiased reviews that help you figure out what's best for you. Happy shopping!

Ditto. We have a ub vista which I love for most use, a UB Gluxe for airplane travel, a chariot cougar for running and biking and a red wagon. We use them all!
