I am a server, and currently work nights between 2 restaurants. I have been hunting for a full time job for a while. Well, today I finally got the job offer I have been looking for. During my interviews (a few weeks ago) I mentioned I planned on quitting serving all together. Well, after our recent SA outcome we are looking at doing IVF in the future. After some thought, I decided I could serve 3 shifts a week and then by next year at this time we would have enough money to start IVF without any loans or going in debt! BUT - My newly offered job doesnt know my hours yet: 8-5 or 9-6... In order for me to stay serving, I would need to be to work by 5:30 at the latest. I dont want to jeopardize this opportunity, so I am trying to decide if I should mention my plans on keeping one of my serving jobs. I don't know if I should just be up front and say "it is to save for IVF" or if I should not tell them the reason because I don't want to look like I come with baggage or a pain for them.
Do you think I should mention my plans to see if they can accommodate my schedule. Do you think I should tell her why (IVF) I am still serving?
Re: What to do... New Job
That sounds complicated and I can understand why you are trying so hard to work this out. If it were me, I wouldn't divulge any personal information to my employer unless we had developed a friendly rapport. I haven't even told my principal that I'm going through treatments even though she's been in charge here for two years now (though I may tell her next September if we are still in treatments by then just for peace of mind in the event that I have to be late to work for monitoring). In your situation, I wouldn't want to open that can of worms (especially since you haven't started yet).
Good luck!
This sounds like a good plan since you already know the people where you serve. I agree with everyone else too. Don't tell your new employer any information until you feel safe to do so, job security wise and emotionally.

I wouldn't say anything about IVF or even TTC because even though its illegal they could decide "you are not the right fit for the position" because of it.
