The mother of all meltdowns

I just got home from "lunch" with two good friends I haven't seen in awhile.  Well Madison literally screamed and cried the whole time we were there, almost an hour.  I ended up leaving half way through my meal b/c I felt bad for my daughter but also for everyone else at the restaurant.  (we were at uno's).  It was horrible! My one friend has a two month old colicky baby so I'm sure the last thing she wanted to hear was a screaming baby.  Has anyone else had similar meltdowns?  Next time I am going out without her and she can stay home with my hubby :)

Re: The mother of all meltdowns

  • I have never had my son cry for that long. But I can't stand his cry so I usually try and shut him up. Usually when he has meltdowns I walk away, which pisses him off but he recovers faster when their is not audience. Poor baby, maybe she's having an off day and is tired or something?

  • She was tired.  I just didn't let her sit there and cry.  I walked around with her, cuddled her, took her outside so she did have moments of being calm but then she started up again.  It was horrible and that's why we left.  I would have left sooner but the food was taking FOREVER to come out.

  • Poor thing, yeah I didn't think you let her cry for an hour straight.  But I've had that happen when T was younger.   So not fun.

  • I am sorry that is rough! L has gotten to the point that we can't take him out to eat any longer for this age. He won't sit still for longer than 20 minutes.  So for right now we either do take out or go to a quick place like Chipotle. Sorry you had a rough lunch!

My mom says this is just how I was all throughout my toddler years. My aunt confirms this to be fact LOL and not just exaggeration. They could not take me out for years! I hope this was a fluke, because I LOVE going out to eat.

Nolan has gotten like that in a restaurant.  When he gets like that, I try to take him outside and let him walk/run around for a while.  That usually does the trick!  I also look at the menu ahead of time and order right his food right when we sit down.  If he is eating, then he is normally happy.  He also loves dried fruit, so I usually keep that packed in the bag, just in case.  I think every parent has had a child who has had a meltdown in a restaurant...next time will be better!
  • Just had the same experience at Unos also. And I was soooo getting dirty looks from 2 women. I was so embarrassed but my sister kept telling me he wasn't that bad. I ended up leaving sooner and didn't enjoy myself. We honestly try not to go out to much with him with all his breakdowns lately.
