My unpopular opinion is that is doesn't bother me AT ALL when people who are in first tri claim to have a "bump". It drives me crazy when people jump all over them and say "It's NOT a BUMP, it's BLOAT!"
Who the F cares what it is, it wouldn't be there if you weren't pregnant!!!! And who's to say the exact moment the "bloat" turns to a legitimate "bump"? I just don't understand why people make such a big deal out of this on the bump.
I have to respectfully disagree with you. At least with me, I could definitely tell when my blump turned into a real bump. Obviously, it did not happen over night-I think there is a distinct difference between the two. The way your uterus grows during pregnancy for the first couple months it is hidden under your pubic bone for the most part...
Yeah I get that it isn't a true bump in the sense that your uterus is still under the pubic bone, but I guess it doesn't bother me when people claim a bump early on the way it bothers a lot of people. My theory is that whether it's bump or bloat it's still caused by baby :-)

All of my friends with kids are super healthy eaters and make the kids eat exactly the same. Sometimes borderline crazy over what their child can or can not eat. Well I have a very picky child who eats healthy foods but likes junk food and currently the only meat he will eat is chicken. With working doubles this week and no time to make dinner DS has had 2 happy meals for dinner this week. I don't feel bad about it either he ate, we didn't have to argue about it, also I didn't have to cook it so it's a very good day in my book. This is not any every week thing but most of my friends wouldn't even let their children have 1 happy meal this week let alone 2

hahaha lovely! I'm totally claiming the extra flab I got from eating an entire honeybun cake over the past 3 days a bump. Darn MIL and her fabulous baking skills!!!!

i agree with you. And with DS I couldn't tell when I went from bloat to bump. I just knew my belly kept getting bigger.
I personally don't get why people love doing cutesy pregnancy reveals. When I found out I was pregnant, I called my parents and MIL and told them. I plan to tell my good friends in person next time I see them. Maybe it's because I'm not super crafty, but all the Pinterest inspired things kind of bug me. And it seems like everyone now is trying to top everyone else in the "cute reveal factor", typically on Facebook.
Agreed. My husband asked me how we were going to tell people on Facebook and I suggested posting a picture once the baby is born. The people who need to know, I've called or will call. I don't really need his old college professor to know we're having a baby.
Not everyone's anatomy is exactly the same. Especially if you're not a FTM. Some weird sh.t happens to your organs after birth. My MW confirmed at my first appointment that my ute was well above my pubic bone. Blanket statements aren't always a great idea.
besides, if someone wants to call bloat a baby bump, who cares?
H watching kids: H and I do take time for ourselves, however it always goes something like this "hey I haven't seen friend in a while. Is there a day this week you wouldn't mind me heading out?". I do think that, with the exception of short errands, "hey babe I just decided I'm taking off for a few hours, have fun with the kids, bye" is a little inconsiderate, especially if the other person is having a long day. And that goes both ways.

I can't post this on my BMB for my DD because it was inspired by some posts this week.
I think women that never take time for themselves after they become moms are a bit crazy. Those that blame their Hs for never allowing them time or giving them time. Don't wait for him to give you a night off. Take it! Just say "I'm seeing a movie with Michelle. I'll be home at 10." He's not your father. You don't need permission. He is perfectly capable of watching the kids. And if he's not? Or you don't trust him to? WhyTF did you have kids with him? Make him be capable. He will never learn if you do everything for him.
This. I have friends who think that if you aren't around the kids 24/7 you are a bad mother. Taking a break every now and then makes me a better mother, if not I would be a grumpy mess all the time. And the husband thing I TOTALLY agree, the "he just can not do it" excuse is weird.. did you marry a 5 year old or what?!.. its just weird.

I think in a healthy marriage where each spouse takes and is inclined to give "time off" to the other spouse easily, then how you and your H do it is the best way to go. That's what my H and I do. But when you have a spouse who doesn't "allow" you time off, or gives you a hard time, then you need to stick it to him first and tell him this is what's happening.

I think the whole pregnancy cravings are a load of sh*&. I think women use their pregnancies as an excuse to eat like crap or get away with things.
I don't buy the " I HAD to have that for supper or else I would have a fit" sort of deal. I managed to make it through my last pregnancy without having to HAVE something or sending my husband out in the night to get something.
Are there foods that I would prefer during pregnancy- sure- but that doesn't mean that I HAD to have them

Well good for you. I also made it through my last pregnancy without a single craving or feeling like there was a food I simply must have right now. That is not the case with this one. Would I have died without eating it? Certainly not. But the feeling was overwhelming and so I indulged that feeling.
Tell me though, do you also think morning sickness is a crock of sh!t? Or do you think that's legit because you personally have experienced it?

This might seem like a strange one, but it's really been bugging me. I wouldn't choose a pediatrician that I couldn't imagine having a beer with, regardless of her qualifications, years of practice, etc. In other words, I'd rather receive medical advice from someone I can relate to (and who shares a similar worldview) than someone with superior credentials.
I married into a family of wonderful pediatricians from whom I would never seek medical advice. Particularly, from SIL. By all accounts, she's a good doctor and a nice person. But we make dissimilar parenting choices and fall on opposite sides of all social and political issues. She thinks BLW is meritless, thinks co-sleeping should be criminalized, and personally side-eyes breastfeeding beyond 18 months. Therefore, I don't trust her professional advice . . . even though I know she's a well-respected pediatrician.

I agree. Regardless of what exact it is, my regular pants still don't fit right now. My shirt still has a big bump in it. It's most likely bloat because it gets so big at night and in the morning it's a little smaller, but why does it matter what it is? It's still there because I am pregnant.

Here's one that should make me VERY unpopular. DS refused to BF (we seriously tried everything) so I had to pump for him and it was so stressful and I hated it so much that I'm considering whether to even try with this LO.

Whew! After this and my Friends UO I was not sure what you thought of me, lol
Karenin: I don't think that is so UO. Some babies really don't take to breastfeeding. We tried EVERYTHING with my DS. it was a horrible, stressful time. I also pumped for a month but never produced enough. If this LO doesn't take to BF pretty quick I am not goign to push it. In a way - formula is easier in my mind bc that is what I know and I am slightly hoping to go that route.
And I said that would make you a horrible person where??????
hmmm..dramatic much. It is my UO- deal with it.
Oh don't worry, we see that both your opinion and now you are unpopular. See above where LimeDrops and ccip disagreed and came to some sort of middle ground? That is a best case scenario for how to UO post will go. I'm not saying I wasn't snarky, because I certainly was after your OP, but this is leaving a very sour taste in my mouth.

That is SO nice to hear- the few friends of mine who have kids seem to have had no problem BF! I could never keep up either and I feel chained to my pump and hated it.

I don't blame you at all. I LOATHED the first 2 months and wanted to give up so bad. The only reason I kept it up was because I knew I was going to stop working and become a SAHM and wanted to do my part and save money. I initially did it because it was the "healthy route". I could so see myself giving up if it were different circumstances. The baby is still getting fed and getting nutrition! Don't feel bad at all!
He is perfectly capable of watching the kids. And if he's not? Or you don't trust him to? WhyTF did you have kids with him? Make him be capable. He will never learn if you do everything for him.
Standing ovation from me on this one!! Our society totally downplays men as capable parents. Watch TV - you will see most dad roles are funny and screw ups. I tried to buy my husband a father's day card, all of them were either about dad laying in a hammock or about dad attempting to act like a mom, but failing. However, mother's day cards are all about how wonderful moms are.
My DH is 100% capable of watching our child. He actually works from home and watches her during the day. So he's more involved in her life then I am. Sure he does things a little differently than I would, but our daughter is so smart, caring, funny and loving. All things he has helped influence in her.
I guess it just makes me really sad when women assume their husbands can't do certain things with their kids, like watch them for a night. It's robbing them from some amazing parent-child bonding time. Maybe dad won't do it exactly like mom, but it's still a win-win. Mom gets a night out, dad and child get to spend one-on-one time together.

I am glad I am not alone on this one!
It's just you two on the anti Channing island. You're getting water boarded until you like him!!!!!
I have a friend who's sort of like that. She goes out, but she doesn't leave the baby (who's almost a year old) with just her H. She calls another person (me sometimes) to come over and watch the baby too. I did this once, not knowing that her H was going to be home and as soon as I showed up he was like "oh cool I'm going to go out for a while"
Seriously??
Oh ya and it's happened on many occasions too. I have some friends who have been asked to do the same thing while her H is home and fully capable of taking care of their child.
One time he didn't go out, he sat on the couch while I fed, changed and put his child to bed.

Our struggle is work schedules in our house. DH works very long hours & so during the week all with DS is on me. If DH isn't also working Saturday that week, the weekends are all we have to get anything done. So when DH has to do something around the house, DS is with me again. However, since becoming PG again, the only "me" time I want is a nap. I DO get those squeezed in on weekends sometimes. It's like there are just not enough hours in a day sometimes. It is really nice when DH gets home earlier on a weeknight. That is ahuge stress reliever to pass DS off to him.

One of my dearest friends is a teacher and this year was begging for summer. We had so many snow days it was ridiculous. I have so much respect for her. She teaches special needs kids in a crappy district. She has bruises all over from being punched, kicked, hit etc. Yeah it comes with the territory but it still sucks. Imo she can whine to me any day.
I really feel for teachers especially around here. I know how hard they work and what little compensation they get. Also don't get me started on standardized test scores...
We are homeschooling though and that's a topic for another day.

I agree. Regardless of what exact it is, my regular pants still don't fit right now. My shirt still has a big bump in it. It's most likely bloat because it gets so big at night and in the morning it's a little smaller, but why does it matter what it is? It's still there because I am pregnant.

And I said that would make you a horrible person where??????
hmmm..dramatic much. It is my UO- deal with it.
Whew! After this and my Friends UO I was not sure what you thought of me, lol

I could never keep up either and I feel chained to my pump and hated it.
ok
I don't blame you at all. I LOATHED the first 2 months and wanted to give up so bad. The only reason I kept it up was because I knew I was going to stop working and become a SAHM and wanted to do my part and save money. I initially did it because it was the "healthy route". I could so see myself giving up if it were different circumstances. The baby is still getting fed and getting nutrition! Don't feel bad at all!

I know, I am weird. I think Ryan Gosling is cute. I kinda like the "cute" type more.
I am glad I am not alone on this one!
here's a super UO for you. I hate how teachers complain ALL THE TIME. I'm not saying all teachers. but the ones that do complain blah blah blah blah. I get that you can't force parents to be there for your kids and you don't want their test scores to reflect on you that way. but guess what...it's the same way in business....you take over someone's crappy account and it's still considered part of your work! and don't get me started on.....when is summer going to be here, why aren't we getting a snow day, etc etc. It just blows my mind.
*disclaimer* for those non complaining teachers, thank you. you would stand out as being a rock among my wishy washy teacher friends.
I am in the same boat. I exclusively pumped for 9 months until DS started having lactose problems because BF went SO BAD. I am scared to try it with this one!
It's just you two on the anti Channing island. You're getting water boarded until you like him!!!!!
I don't know if cute is the term i would use for Ryan Gosling- damn sexy or smoking hot is more what i think when I think of him. :P

My 2 December boys
One of my dearest friends is a teacher and this year was begging for summer. We had so many snow days it was ridiculous. I have so much respect for her. She teaches special needs kids in a crappy district. She has bruises all over from being punched, kicked, hit etc. Yeah it comes with the territory but it still sucks. Imo she can whine to me any day.
I really feel for teachers especially around here. I know how hard they work and what little compensation they get. Also don't get me started on standardized test scores...
We are homeschooling though and that's a topic for another day.
