L and D trip

So Ive been having constant lower back pain and contractions about 7 mins apart since last night. Earlier I had a contraction.... and it lasted about a half hour straight. I called my doc to ask if this was okay or normal and he said to try a warm bath and if it didnt stop to go to the hospital. Bath did nothing, belly was still completely tightened up and back was killlling me. Went there and Im still at 1 cm and of course my extremely long contraction let up right when I got hooked up to the moniter and I just continued to have small ones. So back at home now playing the waiting game. Contractions are getting more intense now and closer together so we'll see. Ahhhh.. im so ready for it to just happen!!

Wow..... You can rest assured that you did not have a 30 minute contraction, not possible. The uterus is like a muscle, it would run out of adequate O2 & blood supply. It would then tire and release, this wouldn't take 30 minutes and thankfully not because LO wouldn't be able to tolerate that.  It was most likely your baby's position that made your stomach tight for a half hour, or your uterus could've been "irritable". But a 30 minute contraction......nah....nope....and neh. Now I wanna say no for 30 minutes! Lol

I'm sure your OB knows a uterus won't contract for 30 minutes.....maybe he/she didn't have it in them to convince you since you seem so sure. If one of my patients wanted to believe this despite me trying to educate them otherwise, I'd let them too. So yep, ok pumpkin...if you say so.

Lol. Thanks, but Im positive my uterus was contracting for 30 minutes and my doctor confirmed that it is indeed possible. Good for the baby? Of course not, but possible.

Sorry, I agree with FK. I promise you didn't have a 30 min. Contraction, honey. Later, when you are in real deal labor you will be sincerely embarrassed to say you did.

Your muscles may have been tight but a real, honest to goodness contraction will last maybe one minute to two minutes tops. You'd be in a lot lot lot of pain if it didn't. Clench your fist tightly. Hold it for thirty minutes then unclench. Yeah, ouch.

Please believe me when I say that I doubt you and it's a good thing.

Ouch sounds painful and scary but I agree, i don't think that's possible. I had a dr. appointment yesterday and asked about the length of contractions because I'm a FTM and and getting nervous for the pain and had a very uncomfortable night a few days ago. I felt like the contractions never stopped. He said some of the tightness and pain I was describing could have been extreme gas...I had an onion ring binge lol....and positioning of baby girl making my belly feel harder and painful. Glad you're ok though and I hope you feel better today.

There's a lot going on when you reach closer to term. So I believe she had tightening for 30 minutes, but not a true contraction. This is as much as I'm bending on this 30 minute contraction. This is up there with the nauseous vagina.

  • Yup, I have had a "tight" uterus for an extended period of time. happens frequently actually. So I understand why you may be confused. However, there is a huge difference between this tightening and an actual contraction. My "tightening" usually has to do with LOs position.

This. I woke up with an extremely tight belly that seemed to last forever last night. But a contraction is more of a wave...and it's purpose is to open the cervix and help baby move down. If you had a 30min contraction, you definitely wouldn't still be at a 1cm. The tightness can be sort of similar in the way your belly gets tight for a BH, but that's it. It's just tight and uncomfortable.

  • When I had dd I had a very long contraction that basically locked my stomach. I was at the hospital on bed rest and hooked up to the monitors. The monitor showed the contraction go up and level off. I have no clue how long it lasted but it was long enough that they ended up having to run me into have an emergency csection because they lost DD's heart rate on the monitors. It had a name and was extremely painful. If I had to guess I would say it lasted 1520 min tops but the entire experience felt like it lasted forever so I really have no idea. Thankfully as soon as I got prepped for the csection it let up and they were able to wait for my dr to determine if I needed a csection.

Lmao yeah just as funny as the nauseas vagina post. Smh. My uterus was extremely tight for a half an hour and made me extremely light headed and and SO uncomfortable. He said its possible for your uterus to contract then clamp down like it did, so maybe it wasnt an ACTUAL 30 minute contraction but it sure as heck felt like it. Im almost 39 wks and the baby hadnt moved the whole time so it freaked me right out and he had me go to the hospital. So sorry, my uterus was TIGHT for 30 straight mins, may not have been an actual contraction, but it was scary as sh!t. thanks for your input, but comparing this to the nauseas vagina bull is ridic. Im not an idiot, just a FTM.
