Is this even a name, and if so which spelling. I was talking to my grandma today about names and this was one she suggested and for some reason, I like it enough to add to my very long list, but don't have a clue if it is real or how to spell it. I am not trying to be youneek.

I like Indie a lot but would rather use a more formal name and use that as a nickname. You could use any of these (some are more of a stretch but I've heard of Indie as a nickname for all)
Indira
India
Indiana
Indigo
Ingrid

Indie: independent film; not a name
Indi: random letters/misspelling of Indie; not a name
Indy: Indiana Jones; not a real name
Indira: this is a name
India: it's a country, but has been used as a name
It doesn't seem complete to me. On Behind the Name they list it as a NN for male name Indiana.
I do like India for a girl.

Heh. I wouldn't use Indie as a name and probably wouldn't use anything it could be a NN for, but I do sort of like India as a name (and only because of India Wilkes in GWTW).
I'm right there with you. India is a GP name for me, for the same reason.
I've heard of several greyhounds named Indy.
India reminds me of Gone With the Wind, and isn't terrible. Indira is pretty.
Indiana for a boy would be a GP name, but I would never use it.
Indie/Indy seems incomplete and like a dog name.
