Started the IVF ball rolling

I've been a little MIA for a few weeks as I haven't had anything enlightening to say while we've been waiting to start the IVF process.

Tonight we had our IVF class, which had about 40 some people in it. The embryologist talked for 90 minutes about the process. Tomorrow I have a repeat HSG... Boo!...and our trial transfer. Then I will be starting my long lupron protocol next Tuesday.

Just wanted to let you guys know that we are moving forward and will officially be in the July IVF group. During our class tonight, they were discussing the progesterone injection and how badly it usually hurts. Anyone had to do that before? I've only used the suppositories. Is it really as awful as they make it sound?

I had a progesterone injection last month--I assume it is th same thing. The nurse who gave me the shot said it is really thick and can leave a big painful knot. She broke mine up into two shots (one in each butt cheek). Instead of one big knot I had two smaller ones. It hurt to sit for a few days but nothing too bad.

I start the long Lupron on July 5th. Looks like we might be cycle buddies. I am not having the progesterone shot but the suppositories. I will see you on the Infertility forum

Hey Niffie! Hope you don't mind me posting. Congrats on moving forward to the next step! GL with your HSG tomorrow, hope it's not too painful. I did the Long Lupron protocol too, so let me know if you have questions (or the other girls on the IF board of course). I've been doing the PIO shots since the end of May. They aren't too bad. Or perhaps everyone deals with it differently. I actually have to do a shot in the am and one at night (most people do it once a day). I alternate cheeks, haha. So the area is definitely tender as I only get a 24 hr break between shots on each cheek, but it's not too bad at all, you just get used to it. People do different things, but I just do the shot (well DH does) and then I rub/massage it for a few minutes and then chill on a heating pad for a little while (maybe 15 mins or so). I think the heating pad helps a lot. And for the me the shot itself doesn't really hurt. It's the same as getting an Hcg trigger shot. Hope that helps! GL lady!!

Congrats on beginning the IVF process! I know it can be a scary time, but it's exciting too. My clinic doesn't do group classes for IVF, I can't imagine being in a room with that many people to hear about the process. We were able to sit down individually with our coordinator to go over everything.

As for the PIO, I'm not gonna lie, it's not the easiest part. For me, the shot itself always makes me wince a little, but it's been manageable. I warm up the oil before injection, never use ice : I know some ladies do, it just seems counterproductive to me : and massage the area after. We switched sides everyday and I never really got any knots. I had to do the shot before I went to work in the evenings and I walk a lot at work, so that seemed to be the reason why. Anyhoo, I'm rambling. The ladies over on the IF board are great and best of luck!

Hey glad you are moving forward with ivf. Pio is not always fun, I did 4 rounds of that stuff, but just make sure to rub the area every injection. I only had 1 knot due to this method.squeeze the area hard then stretch it between thumb and forefinger when plunging.
