What ever happened to promotions based on merit?!? Granted, I work in a large corporation, but still. He's the low-down: I work in an insurance service center. We spend part of our days taking calls and part doing correspondence. One of our 'Solutions' (helpline/supervisor) team members has been out of office for several weeks and will be for several more months. Since he's been gone I have been 'helping them out' full time. There's talk of doing an actual 6 month 'rotation' - which I'm welcome to apply for. So even though I have stepped into the role with no training, taken over several aspects of the role completely to free up the other 2 for the more in depth stuff, and been told by my manager that I have impressed him, I have to do my resume, fill out an extensive online application, and if I'm lucky sit through a 1 1/2 hr interview for the role I'm already doing.
All right, that's my rant. I'll do it, I want the role on a more concrete basis, but what happened to selecting a person who has proven themself without jumping through 50 hoops?
