Formula and Reflux

Have any of you tried or had to use Similac Expert Care Alimentum?? Feedback and why did you use it?
My 3 month old has terrible reflux and we are scheduled for a upper GI test next week. We have tried similac advance, fussiness and gas and spit up as well as cereal in bottle and zantac. Drs suggest staying on Similac Advance. Moms have suggested the Alimentium to me even tho he is not colic, it would help. It's more expensive so before buying I'm wanting feedback please?

  • We tried it for reflux relief and I still have half a can. DD hated it with a passion, she would eat just enough to survive then scream. After a ton of formulas and Zantac finally found our magic combination for now, simalac sensitive and Prevacid ... Working so far

Ive heard great things about gerber soothe... Much cheaper then the alimentum, might be worth a shot if you are looking to switch

  • We r on alimentum she doesn't scream after eating anymore but still uncomfortable after burping and doesn't like continuing eating after..took about 2 weeks for her to get used to taste.. dr had us add cereal had a choking scare so I stopped..meds are next step..it did help somewhat though..her colic and reflux
  • If you only want to go halfway to alimentum and a few bucks less, Similac came out with their version of soothe/gentlease like 3 months ago called Total Comfort, "For persistent feeding issues", in a purple label.  I prefer going with Similac brand in general because it doesn't use the palm olein which supposedly reduces bone density.  I know that was only one study but all things being equal (price), may as well go with it.  So far, I have only seen the Total Comfort carried consistently at Target.  My DS has been using it for one week now.  He had been on Similac Advance and Prevacid since he was 2 weeks old.  His reflux isn't horrible, on Prevacid he would generally have maybe 1 or 2 spit ups per day of around 10-20 ML, other than wet burps, but 2 weeks ago he started spitting up on half his feeds 20-40 ML so we switched on our own.  Now he is back to 1-2 spit ups per day (and admittedly, spit ups are usually our fault for forcing him to eat after he sleeps/refuses).
  • My LO has bad reflux as well, and our pediatrician says that Reflux is under the umbrella of Colic.
  • We are using Nutramigen which is the Enfamil brand, same thing as the Alimentum.  We are also now on Prevacid as well as zantac upset her more.
