VBAC

Time between pregnancies for VBAC

Hi,

Just trying to find out what other people's doctors/midwives have recommended.  My son was born at the end of August and we didn't find out until I was in the hospital and over 6 cm along that he was breech.  There went my plans for a vaginal birth, so now I'm curious what other people have been told as to how long to wait for the next one.  My midwife told me I should wait 2 years between conceptions, so at this point I'm only about 6 months out, but if I happened to get pregnant before then am I throwing out my chances of a vbac?  Has anyone had their pregnancies closer together?

TIA!

Re: Time between pregnancies for VBAC

  • The generally accepted and recommended time frame is to have 18 mo between births. Some will take clients with less time, but 18 mo is pretty standard without requiring more.

  • My DS will turn 18 months just prior to my due date and my doctor is fine with a VBAC. There are a wide variety of opinions on this though.

  • My OB prefers about 2 years between deliveries, with 18 months being at the bottom of the ''gray area''. I'll be 18 months apart if I make my EDD.
"What are you having?" "Well the radiologist says its a healthy little human baby. I'm a little disappointed, because I really wanted a puppy." LOL
  • Typically I find that most people have been told 18-24 months from birth to birth.

  • I had a very successful VBAC at 19.5 months in between.  It was recommended that I wait longer between pregnancies, but it was what it was.
  • I hd a csection for the exact reason as you, breech discovered at 6 cms.  I was told I could get pregnant when I wanted.  I got pregnant  hen dd was 7 months old, and miscarried.  I got pregnant a few months later, my kids are about  22 months apart.

I'm so glad you posted this! this will be me, really hoping to get the go ahead to at least try for a VBAC.  We were not exactly trying to get pregnant with #3, so it was a bit of a surprise.

OP-thanks for posting this, I've been wondering about this too.

  • Thank you everyone for your responses.  I was really hoping to try to have kids closer together, but after the surprise c-section, that seemed to go out the window if I wanted to try for a vbac.  Looks like my husband and I can start trying and hopefully they'll be less than 2 years apart.
