Blended Families

SS and my pregnancy

Thank you to the ladies who reassured me that SS initial reaction to our BFP was nothing for me base how he would feel about having a sibling on. When we told him he said OK and that BM wanted to know when SS was coming to VA for a visit even though she already had the flight info. Since SS has arrived and DH told him that his sister can hear him, he talks to her and its just too cute. A friend of the family's offered to throw a shower and even though I thought it was early she pointed out that SS could meet everyone and have playmates set up for the summer. I wasn't sure how a nine year old would feel about a baby shower, but it was a good day. He was excited to see how many people came and he asked if she had enough clothes and if she didn't that we should go shopping. Oh and we were watching tv and a commercial came on where it showed an u/s and he got really excited. I'm thinking maybe I should look further into doing an elective u/s so he can "see" her before the summer is over. Anyway, thanks again ladies!

Re: SS and my pregnancy

  • That is really sweet!

DS actually loved shopping with us for DD when I was pregnant. We made it his 'job' to pick out some toys for her. And we'd always get him a little Lego or something, too.

To this day, every time he is out with grandpa or XH and gets something, he asks to get something for her.

    That is awesome!

My dd is excited about baby number three, but we took her to an us and she would not look. She said she didn't want to see the sex. Weird! So don't take it personally if something quirky happens w the us, it sounds like he is def excited and that is great.

Awesome news!  Isn't it amazing how the kids can change when they are not under BM's thumb?
haha no kidding! DH has been saying for the longest that SS is a different child when his words and actions aren't being influenced/coached by BM.

We had the same issue with K when I was preggo with PJ.  When we were at home or at school and BM wasn't around, all K could talk about was how excited she was to be a big sister and always wanted to shop for the baby and talk about her.  But whenever BM was around K would clam up and wouldn't say a word about the baby.  It still happens now that PJ is here, but K has a harder time "hiding" her excitement about PJ.

I am so glad that SS is getting excited and wants to be involved!!  Sounds like he's going to be an awesome big brother  :)
