Can't sleep :(

I've been trying to go to sleep for the last two hours and finally gave up.  If I lie on my right side, the heartburn is so bad I either feel like I'm going to throw up or it hurts so much I'm close to tears.  If I lie on my left side, sciatic nerve pain kills me.  On my back I can't breathe and I can't sleep on my stomach anymore.  And every time my rolling over disturbs DH he acts like I'm inconveniencing him soooooo much.

TB says that I should start finding it more difficult to sleep starting now, but I haven't had a good night's sleep in the past 20 weeks!  Last time was definitely not this bad until right at the very end.

Sorry for the whine/vent.  I'm just tired and frustrated.  Sleep

Re: Can't sleep :(

  • Ugh, I'm sorry.  I remember being that way very well.  I had a difficult time sleeping from early on in my pregnancy.  Eventually, I just had to start sleep sitting up with my feet up on the couch.  Hope the sandman visits soon.

  • Get yourself an ice pack for your sciatica while trying to sleep. Do you do any stretches for the sciatica? Look into some yoga moves to help. Also, the U shaped body pillow helped me a lot. Do you take anything for the heartburn? Mine was horrific with N. I had to take a script or else I felt like I had a torch iny throat.

  • So sorry. Do you have a pg pillow? That helped my sciatica pain a bit. Also, ice packs and stretches. Stretching will hurt, but do you a world of good too in the long run.
Maybe you could go see a physiotherapist, just to show you some exercises? Maybe a massage?

As for the heartburn, I drank a lot of milk and that helped it a bit. That, and raw carrots. Like a pound a day and a gallon in two.

So sorry you have a hard time. I wish I could help.

  • I had the same problem this time around, way worse than last time. I finally convinced DH that we needed a new mattress and even though we had finally gotten debt free, we went back into debt for a new mattress. It's a serta memory foam and it was expensive but I've actually been sleeping. Still not sleeping great, but much better than I was.
  • I slept in a recliner for months, might be worth a try! Feel better!

Thanks for the sympathy and advice, ladies.  I didn't have any sciatic nerve pain last time, so this completely new to me.  I'm gonna ask the midwife for suggestions tomorrow, and you ladies had some good ones, too.  And it may be time to bite the bullet and buy a pg pillow.  We talked about getting one all last pregnancy and just never did.  We don't have a recliner (and they tend to give me neck/back problems anyway), so that's not an option.

And now I'm going to try to nap while Lily's down.
