First off, my engagement and wedding rings are antiques, like 100 year old antiques, from DH's side of the family. So, basically irreplaceable. I also wear a silver Tiffany's ring on my right hand that DH gave me our first Christmas together.
I have sensitive skin and my rings were starting to bother me which means that it's time to clean them with a little bit of vinegar and water. I took them off and laid them down on the counter intending to clean them right then. Unfortunately, I then smelled baby poop so I took DS2 into the other room to get changed thinking I'd be right back to clean the rings. But, when I came back they were gone.
Well, apparently, DS1 saw the rings on the counter and in the few minutes I was gone managed to get them and then drop them down one of the air conditioning vents in the floor. He confessed everything. I dug around and pulled out a bunch of dirt and dead bugs but managed to get my wedding and engagement rings out THANK GOD. The Tiffany's ring is still down there and I think it must have fallen farther because it is heavier than the other rings. My dad is going to come over later in the week and help me figure out how to get it out.
I am never taking my rings off downstairs again and I am never, ever telling DH what happened!
Re: DH will never, ever, know of this...
Can you get the vent cover off? Put panty hose over the vacum hose and stick it down the vent. See what you find.
Likely lots of bugs, maybe the ring.
I might try that. My dad warned me to be careful because you don't want to push the ring farther into the duct. If that doesn't work then I'm just going to leave it alone for now.
This! Or stick your cell down and take a picture with the flash on and see if you can see it!

I tried the vacuum thing and it didn't work so I took a cell phone pic and it was definitley there. I ended up using a spatula covered with duct tape to drag it up to where I could reach it with my hand. All of my rings are now safely on my hands where they belong and will be going straight into the jewelry box when I take them off from now on. Thanks for all the suggestions!

I accidently flushed my rings down the toilet a few years ago. Luckily, we found them in the clean out in the basement!
