Daycare question

If your kid goes to daycare, how many days did it take for them to get the hang of naps there? I know Charlie usually doesn't nap well if someone is in the same room with her, and they just called to see if I had tips on how to put her down.

Re: Daycare question

  • Dropping her off went really well, she was off and socializing (aka trying to steal other kids cheerios and being a creeper and watching them eat) and I'm pretty sure she didn't care when we left. Which I'm happy for, it would have really broke my heart if she'd have been upset. She may not nap much there then, she's not going to really have time to get used to everything since she's only there Monday and Thursday all day. Yay, early bedtimes then! Thanks ladies, that's kind of what I figured was going to happen.

ETA: Forgot to say, they don't have a separate room for naps, but she's only in with the 0-12 month kids and so won't have a bunch of older kids running around while she's trying to nap.

Emma has been in daycare since 12 weeks and still barely sleeps there. The only tip I have is that we take a sleep sheep for them to put in the crib or swing with her. It seems to help drown out the other noise. She takes short naps if she has that, no naps if I forget it. She usually crashes in the car on the way home and that seems to help her get through dinner. She is always exhausted when I pick her up, usually asleep before the car leaves the parking lot. The car nap on the way home does help though and then she will eat, play for about 30 mins and take a bath before bed.

Good luck! I hope Charlie adjusts to daycare naps well!

We may have to get her a little noisemaker for her crib, since we still use the mobile to let her know it's time for sleep. Thanks for the idea!

  • Neither of my girls nap well at daycare. At home, DD naps 1.5-2 hours, twice a day. They're lucky if they get her to nap for 1/2 hour all day at daycare. She's not fussy at all though, so they just let her play if she's not tired. We also have a note from the dr allowing her to sleep in a swing or bouncer because of reflux, so sometimes they're able to get her to sleep in those (without a note it is not allowed per state regulations)

  • Y'all aren't really inspiring confidence in the napping area. Tongue Tied And I was so happy that she's finally napping more on schedule than she used to. Guess that one's going out the door. LOL

  • It took Alton a good couple of months to get on schedule. He now takes a 45 minute to 1 hour nap in the morning then a 2 hour nap in the afternoon. That kid can sleep!
  • Update on this, Charlie took a 45 minute nap about two hours after her normal time. I also think they were confused about our bottle instructions. But she had fun, played outside and they enjoyed her lots. All in all, a great experience.
