Pregnant after IF

So Stressed about my Dog (long)

*There's no real point to this to post. I'm just upset and venting

I know the hormones are not helping this at all, and this is honestly the first time I'm praying thats all it is.

I have two dogs, sisters, that are 8 and 9 years old this year. I've had them both since they were babies and for all this time they have been my children. I love my dogs. Recently two dogs in my town were diagnosed with parvo, so just to be on top of things I took my girls for an exam and booster shot. When we got to the vet they mentioned that Isabelle (my 8yo) had lost about 6-7 pounds since March. Afghan Hounds are supposed be to lean but I'd noticed her weight loss myself. She was down to 42 when she's normally closer to 50. So the vet says to up her calorie intake and swing by in a few weeks to weigh her. If she hasnt gained we'll run some tests. Well, I couldn't wait that long to know if something was wrong so I went by this morning for a blood draw on her (another $130 to add to the $1k+ we've spent at the vet this year alone)

Good news is she gained about 1 pound from last week. But the whole time we were there she was whining, crying, howling and shaking. She's never acted that way before, and she's been to this vet several times. I didn't understand what was wrong and it just made me so upset. The vet doesnt seem concerned her blood tests will show anything bad but said it's best to be safe.

My paranoid mind is in panic mode. Did he tell me that to make me feel better because I was obviously upset at the clinic and very pregnant? I can't help but think something is wrong with her and she's like my baby so I'm all upset and crying. Every little thing thats out of the norm sets me off worrying about her.

I have an appointment with my MFM this afternoon so they'll be alone most of the day and now I'm paranoid to leave her. I keep telling myself that my other dog (her big sis) would let me know if something was wrong. That this whole thing is just her reactions to my actual baby coming soon. I'm so freaked out!

  • I'm sorry...we have a little peek-a-poo and she is like family. I would be upset too if I thought something was wrong with her.  Hoping everything turns out okay!

I'm a huge dog lover. I have two little doxies, they are siblings, 7 and 8 years old. My little guy is so sensitive. He can tell that I'm pregnant. He's been a little blue and extra clingy. When we got his sister, he threw up every day for 1 week, so I'm sure his anxiety will only get worse. I think you're wise for doing the lab tests...even if it's just for a piece of mind.

  • Thanks ladies. I'm just so scared something is wrong with her. Sometimes she seems totally fine and other times I just feel like something is off. I'm hoping its just her reacting to baby coming soon. Even if its just her feeding off my anxiety about her I'd feel better.

Thank God this blood test will be back tomorrow afternoon so I'll know one way or another. I just need her to be okay.

  • I'm the same way too. Remember that if the vet were really concerned, they wouldn't suggest waiting for tests.  Everything is likely fine.  This has happened twice to me with my older dog, and both times blood work was fine, he just needed more calories and then he gained weight back. Your pup did gain from last week, so everything is probably fine! But it's smart to do the blood work, and I hope it eases your mind.
