Walking

I don't know if I am just having FTM paranoia or if I have a valid concern here.

Recently, T has been pushing his toys around, practicing walking. But I noticed that his right foot points outward when he walks, and his left is straight. This doesn't happen when he crawls, just when he walks.

Thoughts? Something to bring up to the pedi or totally normal or both?

Re: Walking

  • I vote normal!  We had a concern with em when he first started wanting to stand and hold on to our hands.  He seemed like one foot was always kinda sideways... and pushed in towards his other leg.  It looked really funny.  As far as I can tell it was just a quirk and it's corrected itself.

He's not cruising yet, but he'll step hold on to both my hands.

  • I say normal. I noticed that structurally [physically?] when DS was younger the lower part of his legs, the tibia and fibula, looked really bowed and he liked to stand a lot at a young age. When he first started pulling up and cruising I could still notice that his legs looked bowed. Now that he's been cruising for quite a few weeks now I'm noticing his legs looking straighter. My point is, there are plenty of physical changes to babies' bodies that are going on from having to get pushed through the birth canal, to learning to crawl, to adapting to walking, plus all the growing and whatnot, that I'm sure we shouldn't even be able to tell if there is something "wrong" with their walking until they are a few years old. I'm sure it will be something your LO will outgrow as his body changes and adjusts to walking.

ETA FWIW I myself walked on my toes until I was in first grade and I walk normally now, so even I took some time adjusting to walking.
  • My hubs and most of the men in his family, lol, walk like that. Left straight right kicks out. Its humorous to watch but annoying when walking on that side of him. I wouldn't worry.
