I have a 1st gen Ipad. I think mine is 16Gb and I wish it had more space because I can't fit all of my music onto it (I don't have an iPod for this purpose, so my iPad is all purpose). If this isn't an issue for YH, 16 Gb is fine.
My mom has an iPad mini and it's nice for women because they can easily fit it into their purses and stuff. I think most guys would like the regular iPad size rather than the mini size (also easier to type on when bigger).
DH and I both had 1st gen iPads. He has upgraded to 2nd gen, then 3rd (I got his old one). Recently he bought me a mini and we gave the 2nd gen to DD. He prefers the full size and higher storage limit for apps, music, videos. I'm fine with the 16G size, but if I read on the mini a lot it gives me a headache, which is not a problem I had with the larger version. I would recommend a full size and depending on what you think he will use it for at least 32G. Let me know if you have any questions

I have a 3rd generation ipad and I totally love it. I think it's the perfect size. The mini would be too small for me. The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't support certain programs, such as flash and adobe. So I am unable to print coupons.
