August 2011 Moms

Hi :)

Hey guys! Just popping in to say hello. My nanny kids are out of school now, and they either need to be completely engaged with me or they argue with each other. I can handle about 10-5 minutes of bickering/arguing before I go nuts so we've been very very busy. If anyone has activity ideas for 10, 6, and/or (almost) 2 year olds, let me know lol. Or, please share your magic "no-more-arguing" solutions.

How is everyone? I will obviously start scrolling to read now, but just in general, how's it going?

Re: Hi :)

  • Hey there stranger! Feels like we haven't seen you here in ages!

You always have the best ideas when it comes to keeping kids entertained so I doubt what I suggest will sound half as fun as what you already do, but here goes...

Potted plants: they could each decorate a pot then pick a flower or plant to plant in it and surprise their parents with the end result

Bird/animal observation: ask them if they can spot a blue jay, a daisy, whatever when you go out for a walk. If you have an old camera, you could even have them take pictures, make a scrapbook if you'd like.

    And when all else fails:

    Hi Tuna!!

The silence game would last about 2 minutes in my house.

  • I don't get my nanny kids until the 25th, but then I'll be in the same boat as you, except dealing with an 8yo, 6yo and almost 2yo. We spend a LOT of time outside, make biweekly trips to the park and library, go on walks, etc. I try to do a craft and baking project with them per week. On rainy days, I let them stay in their pjs and have lunch picnic style in the living room while we watch a movie. Their library has great activities like puppet shows throughout the summer. Basically, I've found that if I keep the older two entertained, DS stays happy as a clam. Also, I use DS' nap time as quiet time for the others in their rooms. It helps when they can get a relaxing break from each other, even if its only for a half hour. Good luck and have fun!
