This is our last baby and I am considering having a tubal since I am already going to be opened for a RCS anyway. I've Googled and listened to my doctor about all the pros/cons of a tubal vs. a vasectomy for DH, but I'm looking to hear from people who have BTDT.
If you had a tubal after a c-section how long did everything take (tubal and getting stitched back up) after baby was out? How was the recovery vs. a regular c-section recovery? Any negative side effects (hormone wise, period wise, recovery wise, etc.). I'm starting to think maybe a vasectomy would be easier for my husband than a tubal would be for me, but his line of thinking is they're already in there so why not have it taken care of by the time we leave the hospital.
Thanks in advance for any and all info!

Re: Who has had a tubal during a c-section?
I had one during my 4th c-section. Entire surgery, including tubal was 50 minutes total. It was my shortest c-section.
Recovery was no different. In fact, this was my easiest c-section and recovery.
The only downside is that my period is heavier and longer (I've only had one so far since I'm EBF).
GL!
I had my first (and only) LO in March via c/s. I was high risk and am older (42) so I was perfectly happy actually getting through one pregnancy successfully. So, I had the old tubes tied while the doc was already in there.
I don't think you have to worry about additional hormonal problems since all your original equipment is still in there and functional. Those eggs just can't get where they want to go.
Surgery didn't seem that long. After they got DD out it really didn't seem like I was on the table that much longer...although it did take them a little bit longer because my uterus didn't want to start going back to it's normal size. Of course, my attention was pretty much on my new beautiful little girl while they were doing their thing down there. My recovery was a breeze and I was up walking around within 6 hours. I was discharged from the hospital after just 2 days and have had no complications at all. Just had my first period last week and it was fine. Maybe a day longer and a tiny bit heavier but I am sure that is probably normal after having a baby.
I would totally do it again. I know I don't want to have any more kids and now I never will. And I don't have to ever worry about birth control again. The feeling of freedom that goes with that is absolutely amazing.
I had a tubal almost exactly six months ago with my third c-section. It took about the same time as my other two, but I had very little scar tissue and no other issues. My recovery was pretty easy too, I didn't notice any difference from my other two previous surgeries (other than the fact I had a post partum hemorrhage after my surgery, but that was unrelated to the tubal).
As far as hormone wise, if you are used to being on hormonal bc, you will notice a little bit of a difference. As far as period wise, my first couple were a little longer than normal, pushing 7-8 days. This month, however, I am going on OVER TWO WEEKS!! It's driving me nuts and has mostly been spotting for about a week, but super annoying. I was going to see what next month looks like before I call my OB. I'm sure she is going to recommend going back on hormonal bc to regulate and shorten things up, but I don't want to do that. I guess I have to decide which one I hate worse - paying for and taking bc or having a two week period.
I did this 16 weeks ago and it was my first kid so I don't have anything to compare it to. However my recovery went fairly well and any little minor issues I had post operation were c-section related, i.e..numbness in my abdomen that was slow to go away.
I don't remember how long the operation was because I was loopy during the c-section but fairly coherent for the tubal. I just remember DH was sitting next to me with our newborn LO while the tubal was being done and it didn't seem to take a long time.
I am however glad I did it as I had been off and on the pill since I was 16 and I am going on 38 now so it feels awesome not to have to worry about that anymore.
DH and I had discussed a vasectomy but frankly I wanted to be the one to be "fixed" so I didn't mind.
Had we not gotten pregnant, vasectomy would probably have been the choice. My dr has assured me that it won't affect anything hormonally, since 'all the parts are still there'.
Good to know about the heavier periods though!
