protein allergy and acid reflux...runny poop and congestion??

My son was recently diagnosed with both a protein allergy and also acid reflux.  We are currently on Nutramigen and also Zantac.  We have a DR appt on Monday to check blood in stool to see if things have cleared up (as of our last visit they had not) So monday's appt will be 3 weeks on the new formula.  Lately though (the last 3 days) Most of his poops have been very very runny...  anyone else's little one experience this on this formula? It didn't happen when we first started.  He also seems to get very congested (not all the time- and not where it clears up when I use the snot sucker on him) But he just sounds awful--

Hoping to get more answers on Monday and will also be inquiring about a referral to a GI specialist.

My first son was an angel baby....everyone always said the next would be much different and probably difficult because I was so lucky with my first.  They were all right.  I just feel so bad for my little guy, most of the time he is quite miserable and seems to be in so much pain when he is pooping.  :(

  • I thought nutramigen had dairy in it.  We were told to use Alimentum.  Unfortunately, LO wouldn't take it (I don't blame her, it STINKS!).  So I had to go dairy free.

This was sooo my LO.  DD has the protein allergy and reflux, but was put on Prevacid.  I've noticed that when we need to adjust her doseage for growth she is much snottier in the mornings before her first bottle but then okay.  When I try to suck something out, I get nothin'.  She is on BM but b/s of slow weight gain we were instructed to put formula in her BM for added calories.

My daughter is BF but I tried from Alimentum formula when I needed to travel.  She reacted to it too.  I talked to the specialist and he said that all the MPI formulas have "no bulk" so they just shoot through the babies.  He said if we need to use the formulas to try all 3 and see which one causes the least problems.

So, if he is poop a ton but not uncomfortable that is likely just the nature of the formula.  If he seems uncomfortable you might want to try the other kinds (neocate and alimentum) to see which one works best for your little guy.
