This is more of a vent.. I do not want to talk about actual sleep training.
I am not against CIO at all, we've gone throught that enough on here. It does make me sad that every other post on my BMB right now is about starting to sleep train though. DD just turned 5 months a few days ago, it still seems so early. I also think part of it is that I know we aren't having any more and don't want my baby to grow up any faster than she already is. I mean... she is still sleeping in the rnp in our room. DS was in his crib by 3 months.

It makes me really sad, too. Most of our babies are not even 6 months old. I thought this article was really to the point:

eta not sure where the rest of my post went but anyway, not looking to argue. maybe it just hit a nerve since im starting tonight. lol
Yeah, I'll be honest, it's bumming me out too. I'm not a fan of sleep training in general and the idea that some people have that it's something you HAVE to do really irks me. I fully admit that there are going to be babies who need a little more support with sleep and may need some "sleep training", but it's my opinion that the vast majority of babies will sleep just fine if left to their own devices. I think people jump to sleep training far too soon without trying other solutions or allowing nature to take its course. But what really gets to me is this concept of having to teach a baby to sleep. It's just not true in most cases. Maybe it's true if you want them to sleep on your schedule. That would be something that has to be taught.
I think the other thing is it seems that a lot of people don't realize what baby sleep should look like. They're not following the baby's natural rhythms and that's causing a frustrating situation. They think that baby should be STTN by a certain age, etc. I just think that some people need to give some other things a try before jumping to sleep training, is all.

It wasn't really from todays posts.. it's been talked about a lot in the past month.
Like I said, I'm not against sleep training or CIO. I just think there are people who may be using it before trying other options, or want their babies to sttn even if they're not ready. I'm sure you have tried everything you can and I hope that it does work for you. I don't think your situation is the same as everyone who is starting sleep training.
For what it's worth, if I don't get DD down before she is too tired she is nearly impossible to get to sleep. Like I said though, you've probably done all you can.
Mostly I posted this because I can't believe how fast all of our babies are growing. While I do think it is early for some to be sleep training, it is also just surprising that we are getting to that age.

I agree time is flying, our babies are developing so quickly!
