Working Moms

Stressed!

So I'm almost 6 weeks pregnant with my first baby. DH and I are beyond thrilled and have been casually trying for 14 months. My husband is a teacher elementary and middle school music and I'm a managing attorney at a law firm where I'm about to take over all operations and a portion of the ownership of the firm. I'm super stressed about baby on the way and work responsibilities. Any happy tales of work and baby going swimmingly that you girls can share to cheer me up?! Thanks!

Re: Stressed!

  • I worked right up to the end of my pregnancy and besides the first trimester where I was sick as a dog I was fine. I would once the first trimester is over inform them and discuss your leave, expectations, and whether you want to go back to full time right away. By starting early you can prep your job. I love being a mom and my job and wouldn't have it any other way. Congrats on your pregnancy.

  • Be happy you are married to a teacher with holidays and summers off! We are both teachers. It's great! Happy for you! You will be fine!
  • I am not an attorney but I have just as stressful a job and I travel a great deal for it. I really don't find it all that difficult. Th e biggest thing for me is being organized and having a routine. When I was on maternity leave I made sure my house was perfectly in order and developed a routine getting my little guy on a pretty strict eating and sleeping schedule. His daycare keeps him on the same schedule. He is now 11 months old and it's going really well. Hopefully your DH is very hands on and bonus that he is a teacher! My DH is an engineer but his job is typically not near as time consuming and stressful as mine. He is super involved and hands on and I couldn't do it without him. He's the best! Good luck! You can do it!
  • I worked up until 40 weeks. I am a guidance counselor in a hs and my husband is a patient representative in a hospital. It is not easy but so worth it!!,  You are going to be tired and stressed but once that baby smiles at you or falls asleep in your arms you forget how tired or stressed you are goes out the window.
