The only thing I can say is I wouldn't worry too much with DS2 on the way...I think that will be too hard to try to wean him off bottles when someone else is getting bottles, you know? Our ped said they only really want them off bottles at 18 months, so you've got like 8 months left...maybe you can wait to start trying to get him off the bottles until a little later?
Otherwise, I completely credit our nanny for getting rid of the 2 bottles during the day. I don't know how she did it honestly other than she said he wasn't really wanting those bottles anymore...wasn't very interested in them at all actually, so she said she just started putting his formula in a cup and giving him the cup with snacks or meals when he was thirsty anyway. So maybe you could start giving him some formula in a cup with lunch or something? Does he get thirsty when he eats? Maybe if he gets used to taking it out of a cup when he's eating you can start getting him used to taking it out of a cup at other times as well. Otherwise I wouldn't worry too much...we are almost 14 months over here and still on 2 bottles because I've been slow about weaning since my ped said 18 months is the goal.

I asked our ped about this at his 9m appointment last week and he said he's not concerned about replacing bottles until DS is a year old. He said if I want to introduce a sippy cup now we can but there is no rush. We give DS water or formula in a sippy cup with meals to get him used to it and he loves feeding and drinking on his own. I'm hoping he'll start to prefer the sippy over the bottle on his own and it will make the transition easier.

My LO loves to drink water from a sippy cup. We introduced it at 6 months. But she gets really mad if it has any liquid other than water in it.
This is DS also.. he drinks water or heavily diluted juice out of a sippy cup all day long without an issue, but if you put formula in there, he immediately spits it out and then throws the cup.. and then, I can't get him to take a cup the whole rest of the day..
