Do you have a local non medical ultrasound place? I went to a place for an elective ultrasound... They had several different packages and I paid 59 for a gender ultrasound. You can look into that....

Be nice pp!! That is one of the exciting things about getting the a/s done!! Yes the number one priority is make sure all is well but they are looking anyways so yes they should be able to give you an accurate answer to know if you are having a boy or girl.
It sounded like the tech Was having was having a bad day to me. These techs should know that when us mommas come for that scan we want to know what we are having.

It's a bummer she Sassed you. She must be a real gem. Did she say how sure she was? Sometimes they'll say 80 percent or whatever. I would try to find elective place that does it for less money. You don't wanna announce the sex to all your friends and family and then it be wrong. Especially with a girl. You'll be getting pink everything!

I thought looking at the reproductive system was also part of the anatomy scan. Sure sex determination may not be part of the scan but I thought making sure ALL systems were a go IS part of it.

OP, I had the same unsure feeling while pg with my DD. The tech said, "eh, I think it's a girl". That didn't really instill much confidence in me. The elective places around here are around 150 which I just wasn't willing to pay. I ended up trying to pick things that were neutral or could easily be changed. For example, for the nursery I did a monkeys theme with pink, lime green and chocolate brown. My plan was if she ended up being a boy I'd swap the pink for orange no biggy. I didn't take the tags off any of the girly clothes and wash them before hand so if needed I could take them back and exchange them. For big ticket items I went neutral because I knew I wanted a second child. I know it sucks not knowing for sure and your tech could have handled it more professionally but it's not the end of the world and at least your baby is healthy. Even though I wasnt confident with my tech's guess, she was right and I had a girl. Hope this helps you feel better.

This. We had a very thorough 70 minute a/s and she spent a fair amount of time confirming the sex and that the reproductive organs were developing correctly. I'd be pissed.

Not necessarily. I think they are more concerned with brain, heart, liver, kidneys, spine, etc. We are team green and our tech didn't really spend any time in that area.

OP I agree with everyone else, if you're unsure about announcing try to find an inexpensive place for an elective U/S.

I was there for my ultrasound thing for a good 2530 minutes. It wasn't that long.

Well, at least you got an educated guess.   With DD2 she wouldn't uncross her legs so we either had to pay for another medical US or go to an elective place for 40 dollars or stay team green.

They really don't hang out in the genital region all that long according to the doctor that did our ultrasound for DD2 it is just a bonus of the ultrasound.

Did you get to take home any pictures?  Usually they do the crotch shot with a little arrow and the sex.  Once you know what you are looking for it is pretty obvious.

Yes.  I will give you this, but most know that parents are generally looking forward to it and the tech will at least make a solid effort.  It was even on the list of things to check for at mine.  And in my chart, it said "sex determined".

My question is: were you focused on the sex of the baby?  Or the health.  If it's the first thing you asked about and seemed concerned about, then the tech may have been annoyed.  However, if you at least waited to ask at the end once you saw a nice healthy baby, I would think she would have been more willing.

I was able to get like 6 pictures to take home with me. 3 of them profiles. None of them were of the crotch/general area at all. Because I asked to have it sealed in an envelope for the baby gender party I planned. The tech didn't even include a picture in the envelope just a plain white paper with the word GIRL on it.

I calmly and kindly asked the tech right before she started to do the exam if she could determine the gender and put it in an envelope. That's when it all was down hill. When my husband asked if she was able to determine, she replied "I didn't spend too much time in that area". But the reports were good with everything growing well and healthy, according to her.

We had the "I think it's a girl.  Yeah, pretty sure it's a girl. About 90%" prediction from our tech, who was also not the best in the personality department.  We ended up paying $80 for an elective ultrasound at one of the non-medical places to know for sure.  We would have gone with her "guess" except for the fact that the tech at our NT scan said she was "almost certain" we were having a boy.

No offense, but I think that may have been the problem.  She probably gets a lot of parents who only seem to care about finding out the sex.  If you had waited, maybe it would have been different.  Maybe not.  But I bet asking about the sex straight off the bat gets old to them.

Wait so the ultrasound tech said it was a girl and than you found out at the elective test it was a boy?
