  • I think there are a couple of people here that have started potty training.  I think this is one of those things that is very kid specific!  I have a nephew who was completely potty trained at 16 months, but his brother wasn't potty trained until he was almost 3.  They are very different in personality...then and now, so I think that plays a huge factor in it.  I am nowhere near potty training!  Ian knows when he's peed or pooped, he'll grab his diaper.  So, I know that he knows something is going on but I don't think he really understands what it is.  He follows very small instructions and will tell me yes or no for things, but I don't think going potty is anywhere close to being in that spectrum.  For now, I'm ok with him not using the potty.  Yes, I'd love to quit buying diapers, and can't wait for that day to get here but at the same time I'm not ready to try and tackle this issue yet.  If he's showing signs of maybe being ready I see no harm in at least starting and seeing how it goes...but I wouldn't push the issue if he seems to be distracted by other things instead of pottying.  Good luck!

Yup, same here!  Just change Ian to Allison and this is our house.

  • I'm playing with it this summer.  Do I think he'll actually be potty trained where I'll trust him out and about in undies. . . probably not.  But if he could go at home I'd love that.

I have been sitting him on his little baby bjorn potty every morning since he was about 3ish months old.  Often he goes poop or pee.  Now he sometimes likes to go and sit on the potty on his own.  He's also been interested in sitting on the big potty so I think I need to buy him an insert.

Like a pp said, I think it's totally kid dependent.  You have to make it a pleasant experience or it's just not worth it (and might do more harm that good.)
