Toddlers: 24 Months+

Re: (Untitled)

  • My DD got a virus and croup a couple weeks ago. She had a high fever and terrible cough for 4 days and a lower fever for another day. She was on breathing treatments at home because of her history before I even took her in to the doctor. The doctor gave her a steroid and said her symptoms were consistent with a nasty virus going around.
It took another week for the cough to go away but the steroids helped a lot.

  • Did they give him an oral antibiotic or an oral steroid?
It's likely just viral, as long as it responds to Tylenol I would just keep him comfy and wait it out, I wouldn't take him in until its been a week or things get worse

  • Sorry, correction -they gave him an oral steroid, not an antibiotic....

I thought the antibiotic was weird.  Croup typically runs about three days, after that your nights should be better (it's weird how it happens pretty much only at night) although it can take a few days longer for all the symptoms to recede.  Between my two kids, we've had it a bunch of times.
