I think DD started using one a little after she turned 1.  We noticed that she was balling up a blanket under her head every night, so we put her pillow pet in her crib as a pillow, and she's still using that.  I keep saying I'm going to go and get her a regular pillow from the stack of extras in the basement, but then I keep forgetting to get her one.

DS didn't get one until he showed interest I know he was over a year old.
DD seemed to like pillows right away. We introduced a pillow for naps when she could consistently roll over. Only for naps so we could still monitor her. The last couple days she had be staying snuggled on her side with her head on the pillow si we thought we'd try it for night-night. It was a no go. She kept sliding off of it so we'll wait longer to give her one at night. She just turned a year about 2 weeks ago.

I gave DD one around 14/15 months.  At first she didn't care much about it but by 17 months she was actually sleeping with her head on it.  She loves it now.
