So I have been working as a teller at a bank for the past 2 years with no problems at all. Everyone has told me that I do a great job and always asking my advice on problems. When I told them that I was pregnant and wanted to work part-time after baby comes upper management was not very happy. They even decided that I would not receive the promotion that I was supposed to receive at my yearly review because I was pregnant. Well, a couple of days ago I had a baby brain moment and I accidentally gave a client to much cash, my supervisor was not able to get a hold of this person to verify(comp policy), so they fired me. So now I am 33 weeks pregnant and having to file for unemployment and pay for all the insurance out of my own pocket. I just feel like my company could have easily made an exception due to my situation and they choose not to. Sorry for the vent. Just very frustrated.
Is anyone else had any similar problems with work?
Re: work vent
So I have been working as a teller at a bank for the past 2 years with no problems at all. Everyone has told me that I do a great job and always asking my advice on problems. When I told them that I was pregnant and wanted to work part-time after baby comes upper management was not very happy. They even decided that I would not receive the promotion that I was supposed to receive at my yearly review because I was pregnant. Or the fact that you won't be a full time employee??? Well, a couple of days ago I had a baby brain moment and I accidentally gave a client to much cash, my supervisor was not able to get a hold of this person to verify(comp policy), so they fired me. Don't blame that on "baby brain." My guess is someone who was NOT pregnant would also have been fired. So now I am 33 weeks pregnant and having to file for unemployment can you get it when you were fired?? and pay for all the insurance out of my own pocket. Umm, most people do this. I just feel like my company could have easily made an exception due to my situation and they choose not to. Sorry for the vent. Just very frustrated. No, it sounds like you want to use your pregnancy as an excuse. Sorry--doesn't work like that.
Do you have any documentation about when they said they would NOT promote you due to your pregnancy? It may be something to look into. I'm probably wrong but I would think they can't make that decision because of your pregnancy....then again it's probably the part-time part that makes it OK. I dunno it's worth asking.
As far as making the mistake and being fired because of it --- it's not my field but I'd assume anyone would get fired because of something like that being done in a bank....but I may be wrong.
So sorry you're going through that...try to stay calm and take care of your little one in there
Everything happens for a reason.
Oh!!! I'm so sorry. I forgot I had to make sure I had you permission before I gave my opinion on a public internet forum. I will never make that mistake again! Thank you so much for setting me straight.
::rolls eyes::
Step back and think about this objectively: Why would they promote an employee who won't be on location full time? It makes no sense. That would be like my assistant principal only being in my building 3 days a week. It doesn't make sense. People in a supervisor position should be available all the time.
I didn't think my response was critiquing...It was actually very nice.
If you'd like to vent with no critique I highly suggest journaling.
I don't know you or your company and I only worked as a teller for a short time, but the promotion thing sounds reasonable since you will only be returning part time. I would assume that's the reason as opposed to you being pregnant.
I also think the phrasing you used about "baby brain" causing you to miscount money you gave to customer is what is tripping people up. It's ok if you just made a mistake. Humans do that without being pregnant all the time
It does suck that you got fired over this one thing (assuming it was the only issue they had with you for 2 years) and I'm especially sorry that you are having to deal with this stress right before baby comes.
Try to relax and research other jobs that you may be able to apply for after maternity leave. Good luck!
this
ha! why can't this ever be me?! i would end up bringing the money back if i noticed anyway but still...
LOL! It stinks that people can't be honest though. That's actually happened to me before..on the receiving end...and I went back to the teller to make it right. If that happened maybe she wouldn't have lost her job ... sad face.
Best. Response. Of. The Day.
Agreed.
Yup. Why am I not this witty??
