Toddlers: 24 Months+

What gives???

DS will be 3 the end of this month.  He still sleeps in a crib and is fine with it, has never tried to climb out.  He goes to bed between 8 and 8:30 pm and usually lays awake for about 10 mins and then falls asleep with no issue and is out for the night. The last 3 nights between 11:30 and midnight he wakes up, wide awake and proceeds to talk to himself and his loveys for hours, last night he was awake in his room from 11:30 until after 2 AM.  I did go in there at one point as he started to whimper a bit, changed his diaper and put him back to bed.

What could be the deal?  I don't recall this happening at this stage with DD.  He is not upset when he wakes up, just chatty.  He does not appear to be sick, no fever, has all of his teeth, and he no longer naps during the day...I can't for the life of me figure it out.

Is he maybe working on a new skill? Or starting to potty train and learn the need to pee and that's waking him up?

Potty training was my thought too.

I'm sure it's just a stage.  If he's not crying/calling out, be happy.  My son has been in a stage of spending 1-2 hours talking/singing/kicking the side of the crib for two months now.  It happens before he falls asleep but I keep waiting for it to pass.  I bet it won't last too long.
