Suggestions Needed!

Hi Mommies,

DS has a really bad rash/raw skin under his neck/chest from drooling. Its like a red outline where his clothes aren't. I try and keep him dry as much as possible but is there anything safe to use being so close to his face to help clear it up or prevent it from getting worse? TIA!

Re: Suggestions Needed!

  • You could try some coconut oil or aquaphor. However, drool rash won't ever completely go away until they stop teething and drooling.

  • I would definitely try Aquaphor. I don't know if you have tried this, but when my LO is extra drooly we keep a bib on her all day and make it tight enough to not leave a gap between her chins (yes chins) and her neck/chest.

  • Our son had a drool rash, and it just wouldn't clear up. We tried to keep him dry-bibs, burp clothes, protective lotion.  Finally, we took him in to see the doctor and she prescribed an antifungal ointment and a eczema powder-bam! its gone. So, maybe if it is bad enough and does not get better you might try that route.

  • Thank you!!! Definitely gonna follow these recommendations!
  • I have used Cetephil or even neosporin on rashes like that.  I read that you can clean it with a wipe when you see the drool to stop it from spreading as much. Don't worry, it will go away.
  • lanolin

  • Our little one lives in a bib too- he uses cloth ones when napping in his swing but plastic backed ones every other time as those really keep him dry (at night we go without as I'm terrified he will choke on it).  We tried Aquaphor and it helped initially but still was not great so doctor suggested A+D ointment and it seems to have really made a difference.
