Still not walking?

My 14 month old LO is still not walking.  I know that all kids develop at their own speed, but it seems as if he's been behind on his milestones. He really started crawling by 11 months, so I knew walking wouldn't be overnight, but I'm getting frustrated. Any of you moms out there going through the same thing with your LO?

Re: Still not walking?

  • Our good friend's daughter didn't walk til 15 months and once she did, she was off to the races!

    No worries!

Having worked in daycare I have noticed a fair share of children who did not walk by 14 months.

My friends daughter didn't crawl or cruise on furniture then Boom, one day she up and walked.

Is he holding your hands and walking or putting weight on his feet or standing? Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the actual first step that we miss the little things that are preparing them to walk.

  • My DD still isn't walking on her own. Can your LO walk holding on to things? Like walking while holding on to furniture, or pushing a toy? My dd still has to hold onto things. I'm not worried about her. Personally I just don't think my dd has the confidence to walk on her own. If she takes a few steps and realizes she's not holding onto something she throws herself down. Just know you're not alone. I'm not worried, just enjoying this last bit of total dependency.

  • My DD started walking after her 12 month appt with the pedi (she was 12.5 - 13 months old).  The pedi had told me that DD just needs to know she can walk and she will.  So, basically the pedi was saying it was a confidence issue.  Once DD could walk holding on to a finger, we would take her on walks in our neighborhood.  So we tried to get her to practice.  Plus, DH and I would spent a lot of time trying to get her walk back and forth between us.  She loved this because she thought it was hilarious to "dive" onto us when she got there.  That being said, I don't know that it helped her walk any sooner.  I think they just do it in their own time.

  • Thanks mommies!! This made me feel better... I have friends and even family whose children didn't walk until almost 16 months but its always different with your own. He is definitely cruising and using several push toys so I guess I won't worry too much and just enjoy these last few moments before it all changes!
  • My son will be 15 months soon and he still isn't walking. He can stand on his own and walk furinture but that's it. I'm not stressing too much about it.

  • We are in the same boat. DS will only walk holding my hand or pushing something. He also did not start crawling until his 11th month. Im trying to enjoy this time and really love his babiness. I swear...he has grown so much lately that this is the only real BABY thing left. Sad

My daughter still isn't walking unassisted. She cruises her butt off and man handles her push walker all over the house. LOL Each week I see a progression....standing longer and longer without holding on, using a ball to put her hands on so she can stand up on her own, she takes sorta a step to me then falls into me as she laughs. So am not worried. I am seeing steady progression. She does however talk ALOT! She says 40+ words and signs 20+ words. She also is very very into reading her books. Very independent little girl. She's lately been pointing and talking to her books for a long long time. So I think she is just more focused on those things.

No worries, my DD began walking at exactly 15 months (last week) it happened from one day to another. He gained courage and just decided to walk last Monday evening. Now he's all over the place. Don't worry, your LO will get there when he's ready :)

  • No worries lady!  Dom is 16 months and has no interest.  His pediatrician checked his balance and everything at his 15 month checkup.  Though a little wobbly, and not letting go of her hand, she said he his ready and just needs his courage to build up.

My mom always told me I didn't walk until 18 months.  O_o

She says he is lazy like me.  :oP
