NG tube at home

We should be finally getting discharged from the nicu after 5 months, little one is not taking full bottles yet but we are working on it, her dr said he feels comfortable letting her go home with a NG tube bc my husband and I are both nurses. Any one take their little one home with one ?? I know it will be temporary

We did, for both girls. DD1 never had to use hers ... she was that close to full feeds at discharge. DD2 used it for a couple of weeks. Make sure they actually have you drop the tube with their help before discharge so you feel comfortable doing it on your own at home. It's no fun, but better than those extra weeks we would have spent in NICU getting from 80 percent to full feedings by bottle!

Three of my babies came home on ng feeding tubes and one with a g tube. My husband and I were taught how to use them in the NICU and went home feeling very comfortable. Being in the NICU was pretty much the first time we ever spent time in a hospital. It was not that hard to figure out :-). Our kids were on the feeding tubes about five months because they kept aspirating during their tests to bottle feed. Good luck and enjoy every minute with LO at home!
